Liono wrote:I've started having a rather odd problem. I run KDE on xgl, but recently some of my kde startup programs have been crashing xgl (ie. the windows all stop responding, but I can still go onto the console and kill everything manually), which means I can't start kde normally through startkde. (ie. I have to launch a console and run kicker and kdesktop manually). I have so far detected amarok and kmix to be causing the problem. I initially looked at artsd, but that's not causing a problem as noatun seems to run fine and plays music with no problem. Any ideas?

edit: It appears I'm getting some "ERROR unlocking pcie memory" stuff in my logs, nothing in the xorg logs. It looks like that only happens when I start xlg though...
I have the exact same problem.

Where are you seeing 'ERROR unlocking pcie memory'?

Thought I'd have a go at the new compiz-quinstorm #13:

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables COMPIZ_CFLAGS
and COMPIZ_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

piwacet: svn up. I just added the dbus dependency.. It isn't optional as it isn't in ./configure so.

thanks for that info, I hadn't noticed. I don't know what the big fuss is though as I have already emerged the latest xorg-server and do not have any problems with my nvidia card working. :? Whatever I guess. For now I will just work around it.

I confirm that. Oh wait, was that too many :)

As for the error, have you tried re-emerge of gtk+, pango? Sometimes these need to be rebuild and are not properly picked up by a revdep-rebuild. Once this is done, try emerge cairo again.

I don't think this bug has anything with gtk or pango.

Oops, I missed that. You're right. Looks like the snapshop is snafu'd. Use an earler one until a new snapshop appears.

I think compiz-quinnstorm-9999 ebuild should have a dependency on sys-apps/dbus. I got a compile error that some thing with dbus is missing so I added this dependency to the ebuild and now it works. I just thougt I tell you this.

Hello there. People with the problems with debian/changelog quinn.h bit.. This problem is known, but I guess the way I package the tarball up doesn't include it. I will try and fix it, so just give me a little while.

I added sys-apps/dbus to compiz-quinnstorm-9999 also as I forgot to.. Guess I need to stop staying up so late.

nesl247 keep up the good work.
No all of us have the skills to keep up with what you do, but we are here to find the bugs and help those who develop, package etc.
We are doing this to make the world a better place too bad the rest of the world will never no.

Thanks

I'm about to try the new changes.

Blank screens on Xgl

Post by Zhen85 » Fri Jun 09, 2006 12:12 am

Hi all:
I'm trying out Xgl and the compile went great, but unforuntaly i have problems running it.
When i type in

Code: Select all

Xgl :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer
I get a window with a grey background and the mouse cursor is an "X"
after that, i type in

Code: Select all

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ DISPLAY=:1 compiz gconf
into another terminal and then the Xgl window turns black with a pointer for the mouse coursor, nothing ever happens
not so sure if this is correct behaviour or not and i don't even know where to type

Code: Select all

gconf-editor
I'm using xorg7.0-rc1 and xorg-server-1.0.2-rc4
i have a radeon x800xl using latest ati drivers (8.25)
xgl overlay is rev 233
plz help, and if more info is needed, just let me know, thanx

Just tried compiz-quinnstorm-9999 and it segfaults because of an issue with dbus.

when I try and run compiz i get the following error

Code: Select all

compiz: Connection Error (Unable to determine the address of the message bus)
compiz: Couldn't initiate D-BUS connection
compiz: Disabling D-BUS Service
Finishing dbus
Segmentation fault
I currently have dbus-0.61-r1 installed and I have rebuilt it and compiz a couple of times but no luck yet.

Have you /etc/init.d/dbus start and rc-update add dbus default?

Yes, I just rebooted and it did nothing to fix it either.
I have the following line in the output of ps so I guess dbus is running

Code: Select all

101 14504 0.0 0.1 3776 884 ? Ss 11:02 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system
[/gwn]

Also I can't find anything in any logs to suggest a problem with dbus, although I do have this line reported by revdep rebuild.

Code: Select all

broken /usr/lib/libIvmConfig.so.0.0.0 (requires libhal.so.0 libdbus-glib-1.so.0 libdbus-1.so.0)
but I fiqured that one out, I have reemerged dbus and ivman twice now so I have no idea whats doing that.

Try this: dbus-launch --auto-syntax --exit-with-session

Then try and start compiz.
