Totem could not startup [SOLVED]

  • Quote

Post by Krogen » Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:35 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm running gnome-light 2.14 and decided to emerge totem. I emerged the current testing one (1.4.0) (by adding totem and its dependencies to package.keywords). Now, when I run it I get a message:

Code: Select all

Totem could not startup.
Could not close supporting library.
If I try to run it from terminal, I get:

Code: Select all

krogen@gentoo ~ $ totem

** (totem:9012): WARNING **: No GConf default video sink key and autovideosink doesn't work

** (totem:9012): WARNING **: No GConf default audio sink key and autoaudiosink doesn't work

Any ideas? Thanks![/quote]

A shot in the dark, but perhaps you need to set video/audio sink at Desktop > Preferences > Multimedia Systems Selector?
python>>> q="'";s='q="%c";s=%c%s%c;print s%%(q,q,s,q)';print s%(q,q,s,q)

Didn't have a Multimedia Systems Selector. So I emerged the testing one with its dependencies.

Code: Select all

media-plugins/gst-plugins-oss
media-plugins/gst-plugins-alsa
media-plugins/gst-plugins-esd
media-libs/gst-plugins
media-libs/gstreamer
media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2dec
media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad
media-plugins/gst-plugins-a52dec
media-plugins/gst-plugins-ffmpeg
media-libs/gst-plugins-ugly
media-plugins/gst-plugins-gconf
media-video/totem
Now, when I go to Multimedia Systems Selector and try to pick the Default Sink (or Default Source) and source I get:

Code: Select all

Failed to construct pipeline for 'Autodetect'

Same thing happens with Alsa and OSS. If I try to pick ESD I get a loud continous noise. Video seems to be fine. Still the same error in totem.

XMMS and everything works else that uses alsa works fine. I have alsa built into the kernel. I use my VIA Envy 24PT onboard audio on my K8X800 Pro 2 motherboard. Here's my dmesg, if that helps. Thanks.

Code: Select all

I would suggest merging totem with xine USE FLAG. and then select the xine engine.
