I had that problem for a while. No one here was willing to help. But it did go away. I am sorry I do not know how. All I know is that it happened around the time that I removed the water plugin from compiz. But I do not think that was the reason.

1ino1eum_4the_win wrote:I got some problems : with the wobbly plugin, I have now really strange wobbly windows, like really slow and way too much wobbly
There are new gconf settings to control wobbly settings for different types of actions. In /apps/compiz/plugins/wobbly/screen0/options, play with friction and spring_k to change the wobbliness. You should also find friction and spring_k settings for things like grabbing a window, window getting focus, etc. (I'm using Quinn's CVS so I might have slightly different settings than you.)
1ino1eum_4the_win wrote:and for the dock plugin, I don know why , but there is no more dock, there is only the windows :/
Dock has problems right now, I don't know if CoffeeBuzz v 184 has a working one or not. One thing you should *not* have is both dock and miniwin running at once. If you do, remove one or the other from active_plugins.
1ino1eum_4the_win wrote:I had no shade , and now I have some funny red shade, well ... I guess it's a mater of taste :)
You can now change drop shadow colors (and I don't like pink either :-p ). It's in the decoration plugin settings, shadow_color, and it uses the same color number that are used on web pages -- change it to #000000 to get back to black. If you're not familiar with these color settings, Google "web color codes" to find a listing.

Edit your /etc/portage.package.use flags for Xgl to include -mmx. I had a similar problem compiling with MMX support, and setting this flag fixed it for me.

yes and its weird cause now when i use kdm and my user gets autologged in xlg starts and my screen gets locked instantly asking me for my pass, which i never had before, plus the settings wont apply in gconf-editor.

heres my /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/Xstartup :

Code: Select all

sleep 2

ive been messing about with this for weeks now and the only way i can use gconf-editor is if i start xgl via the startxgl script provided in the overlay :(

To use git to checkout the cairo library, use the following command:

git clone git://git.cairographics.org/git/cairo

git pull origin

Once you have a clone this way, you can browse it locally with
graphical tools such as gitk or gitview. You may also commit changes
locally with "git commit -a". These local commits will be
automatically merged with upstream changes when you cg-update, and you
can also generate patches from them for submitting to the cairo

Note: If you can't find git packages from your distribution, you can
get tar files from:

I'd been using the xgl-testing overlay up until rev 182 no problems, then as of rev 184 I'm getting the above error.

I've seen that several other xgl adopters/testers are successfully at rev 184 (albeit with some teething troubles) but I'm wondering if anyone else has the same error / why no-one else has the same error
I tried installing Suse Linux off the Internet. It got stuck in the middle somewhere.Installing off the Internet is for the birds.

I had problems starting XGl using that method as well.
I switched to using the HOWTO instructions titled "If KDM is unusably slow on startup" and using GDM it has
worked since. I also notice you are putting plugins in the command line. Plugins set in gconf-editor override
command line settings. Also you have both "dock and miniwin" plugins in your command line. This is incorrect,
you must have one or the other as they will cause problems when used together "lot's of weird problems". David R.
has said that miniwin is for experimenting with new settings, while dock will be for production.

i am starting KDE/XGL this way as per the HOWTO
in this file /usr/bin/compizrc i put
#!/bin/bash
DISPLAY=:1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace gconf > ~/compiz.log 2>&1 &
sleep 1;
DISPLAY=:1 gnome-window-decorator > ~/gnome-window.log 2>&1 &

I added to /etc/env.d/99kde-env
KDEWM=/usr/bin/compizrc

Now you need to tell gentoo to use gdm instead of kdm
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"

The window focus problem if i remember correctly reading the compiz forum is a bug in the state plugin,
although i have noticed on my system it only happens when i have flash enabled on FireFox and have the
dock plugin enabled in gconf
I am able to run the state plugin without the focus problem as long as i don't have flash in firefox
Dock is still buggy and sometimes makes XGL exit when a window is closed

Hope all this helps

well now I've got a rather strange problem in KDE, all the plugins seem to work(haven't tried all), but when I move the cursor to the side of the screen, it automatically starts to rotate the cube. which is, of course, very annoying. everything else seems to be working fine.

strangely enough, that didn't work. disabled on both user and root, so it's definitely disabled.

Think you need to also edit the cube plugin's option.

just tried it on my system again to verify
when i turn ON edge_flip_pointer i CAN rotate cube with mouse on edge
when i turn OFF edge_flip_pointer i CAN'T rotate cube with mouse on edge

I didn't make any changes in cube plugin as like you said there is none reffering to edge_flip or rotate
I didn't turn OFF the other edge_flip options either BUT you might want to try that

I am on quinn version 10.11 and there has been some updates since the last
coffee testing rev 184 which looks like it is using quinn rev 10.3

EDIT: I just remember'd that the edge flip was turned on by default with 10.3 and then
turned off by default in later versions as many people complained of this in compiz forum

I have a problem since the new Version:

Some time ago, they added the feature to set a window "always on top" or "on all workspaces" etc with the right-click-menu of the titlebar. As the default gnome-settings for that are greyed out (I only have "On Top" anyways) this was quite useful but now it isn't there anymore.

Does anyone have an idea why and how to fix it? I used to watch a video "on topped" in a corner...

Coffee is Served

Post by Jupiter1TX » Thu May 11, 2006 12:41 am

I just found that CoffeeBuzz overlay has been upgraded to 186

Just checked and it appears that testing rev 186 now has all the latest
David R. and Quinnstorm patches as of today "cvs rev 10.12"

It compiled fine with no problems after i removed the "layman" overlay
referance in make.conf, which causes problems with glitz

All seems to work well, although "dock" plugin still crashes compiz, so leave it out

Thanks CoffeBuzz Team

I'm not dead really!!

Sorry for the delay folks. nesl247 will be handling some compiz updates for me as I continue to work 14 hour days with not much sign of stopping till end of summer.

I'll make sure everything is updated at least once a week. Best I can do.

Cheers.

I don't think we use layman.. Please use the XGL-Coffee SVN overlay if you want to use compiz/xgl. I suggest the testing instead of trunk as it has the latest, and I always test before I commit anyways.

Layman is only a script to handle your overlays. Nice, if you have several ones, and don't want to bother remembering were they are.
For some reasons, it uses the svn.tripthelight.net rather than the xgl-coffe ones. Doesn't matter that much since it is the same ip, strange though.

I don't think it has the testing tree though, so you'll have to manually edit the xml files to add it.

Hi,

I've got a compiz segfault with the latest revision (rev 187) from xgl-testing !
Just a message like "No xinerama found" and the segfault.

I try to remove the mmx flag... use the latest mesa/xgl cvs... nothing works :cry:

Does anyone have an idea :?:

SOLVED :oops:
export GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE="xml:merged:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults"
gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas

Sorry for the delay folks. nesl247 will be handling some compiz updates for me as I continue to work 14 hour days with not much sign of stopping till end of summer.

I'll make sure everything is updated at least once a week. Best I can do.

Cheers.

well, my problem is less with xgl/compiz than `operator error'. i can't seem to start xgl from console, only within twm. which means i can't start gdm or anything as well. i've got no clue as to why this happens, any insight would be infinitely appreciated.
