settings for a gaming pc

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Here's my long list of USE flags. I think that this has helped consolidate my computer for heavier multimedia/game usage than other (development, server) usage. I hope some of it helps!

Most games (sans quake, ut, & nwn) need wine or cedega and will take a 10-30% preformance hit. So gaming and linux don't do will together. However linux has much more and being able to play a game real quick between work is really nice. Just don't get your hopes up.

Expect a little instablity for the 5-10% -O3 brings over -O2

Code: Select all

CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
I run -O2 you will never notice considering the hit you take from the API mapping of wine.
