Home Office Solution ?

Hi,

i am setting up a home office for my partner and have read through the different guides and wiki's but still unsure on a spam/av solution. So far, I have been thinking on the following setup :-

Gentoo X86 (spare 2.8Ghz/2GB RAM Machine)
Asterix for VoIP
Postfix
MailScanner

but ideally what I would like to be able to do is pass the email though a number of AV solutions, make use of my current licenses, which are NOD32, Kaspersky and ClamAV.

Is this achievable with the above setup ?

well, in this case, procmail might be your friend (not that i ever used it myself).
search this forums for "procmail", i guess this is exactly what you are looking for

Would prefer a scalable solution - procmail is ideal for a single workstation, but I shall be setting up own DNS, website etc @ the end of a DSL line. Ideas ?

I do belive that MailScanner supports the use of multiple av-scanners in
the same setup. I've used it for my home setup once, and i was partially
satisfied.

Partially? What problems did you have? Are you using DSPAM now?

I don't use anti-spam solutions and av myself, but as qmail (my preferred mta) was written with security in mind, I guess that anti-virus and anti-spam was also thought of.

Hi.

Postfix + amavisd-new will become your best friends. Postfix can be configured to drop most spam with filters and rbl lists. Amavis supports most if not all linux av scanners and can also use razor to classify messages as spam or not.

i honestly can't remember, it's been a few years since i tried it. all i can remember is that
there was something that was not quite right, but this may have changed during the years.

Thanks. Do you think a P4/2.8 will be enougth power for this setup ?

unless you have tousands of users, this kind of power should be enough to host any type
of mailserver setup.
