GRUB and Genkernel

how can get grub to update itself after doing a genkernel all ? because now my grub boots and brings me to the grub commandline screen. I have edited the menu.lst and grub.conf and the information below is in there and nothing.

Code: Select all

default 0
timeout 15
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
Title=Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86.2.6.15.1 root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real_root=/dev/hda3
initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.15.1
[/code]

whats wrong with this?

This is slightly off the issue, but I was surprised today. I upgraded my kernel, and tried "genkernel --menuconfig --bootloader=grub all" (as adviced in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kernel-upgrade.xml). After reboot all I got was grubs command line. A new boot from CD and I noticed that grub.conf was empty. Of course, rewriting grub.conf manually made things work.

I think you could try: "kernel /kernel-genkernel-x86..."; not "kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86..." At least that works for me.

Heres what I have in my grub.conf

Code: Select all

Default 0
timeout 45
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Gentoo!
root (hd0,0)
kernel kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.15.1 init-/linuxrc root=/dev/hda3
initrd initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.15.1

still takes me to the command line for grub on boot. in that window all I type is the following commands

Code: Select all

kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.15.1
then boot
It boots with out a problem. any ideas?
