ls color option ( NOT solved )

Hello. I have updated my configuration files with etc-update, but after this it seems to be a problem with my ls colors. They are gone. I'm messed some conf file.. how can I bring back the colors ? Thank you from now.

Thank you but... no.

Still without colors. Before the etc-udpate command I had colors, but now they are gone.
Help.

Shows that the 2 config files are: /etc/DIR_COLORS and ~/.dir_colors

Are they empty? Should I post mine?

This is my /etc/DIR_COLORS file. It is not empty but still I dont have colors.

OMG, it's not solved !
This command works once in only one terminal.
The damn etc-update fucked my LS command and I don't know how to fix it ?!?

I'm having a similar issue, only my system never even started with colors! I rebuilt my system from scratch, and now all of a sudden the colors have no effect. It's that way for root and my normal user account. Anyone know why yet?

I might add that eval 'dircolors -b /etc/DIR_COLORS' doesn't seem to have any effect, whether I put it in .bash_profile or run it by hand. I've also tried just dircolors -b /etc/DIR_COLORS. Why won't ls give the color output?

OK, one last thing I've noticed:

both /etc/skel/.bashrc and ~/.bashrc contain the following:

edit : it seems that I have colors in my alt +F1...F6 consoles, but not in my konsole in KDE.

Hmm... guys, it seems that I have colored console but only if I am logget as root. Dont know how to fix it.

For a system-wide fix for ls colors, add this to the bottom of /etc/bash/bashrc

As long as your ~/.bash_profile references your ~/.bashrc you can set LS_COLORS there and baselayout changes won't break it.

From my .bash_profile:

You could copy the colors from /etc/skel, or wherever, or personalize them. The .tgz setting shows that these go back to my Slackware days 4-7 years ago.
