GATOS, Xorg 7.0, ATI All in Wonder 9700 Pro

Hello, on the GATOS website it says:
Radeon TV-input code has been merged into X.Org CVS, to appear in release 7.0
and:
All-in-Wonder Radeon 9700 (Radeon300)
We have received documentation for this card and sample hardware (thanks to ATI !), work is underway.
However, now that Xorg 7.0 has been released, I can't find any mention of this so-called GATOS-Xorg 7.0 merging on the Xorg website or in the release docs for Xorg 7.0

Can someone confirm for me whether or not this is the case?

Does Xorg 7.0 contain drivers to support TV-in on ATI AIW Radeon cards?

Thanks!

Yeah... I wanna know about this, too... I see vague references to this on wiki.X.org, but they just say that it is included... nothing useful like where or how to use it...

I couldn't even find much useful on their mailing lists... Probably the only other option is to dig through cvs logs or something...

I have a all-in-wonder radeon 9600 pro and I 'd like to know if anybody has gotten it to work, ever. I've looked into getting it working and I 've seen the same stuff about zorg 7 and nothing to back it up. I can't get anything off of gatos to compile either.

Me too. I installed modular X and then discovered that in fact there is practically no information on doing this. Maybe its too new. Oh well at least it dosn't take as long to compile X as it did before.

They have been merged, check your Xorg.0.log, I took my aiw 9200 out and have my 8500 in this pc, but it said something like rage theater detected and then a line that says rage theater chip disabled and I was looking around for if I had to put something in xorg.conf to enable it but I couldn't find any info, I was going to emerge avview from the gatos website but there's no ebuild in portage and I didn't want to manually compile it, but yeah, I'm interested too. I was going to buy a separate tv card with bttv chip or something up until I saw that in my xorg log.

Hi I can confirm that the code is there in Xorg-7.0 but if you use the ATI closed source drivers for dri then it wont work.

I have 2 systems with xorg-7.0 -

AIW 7200
AIW 9800 SE

Both systems work OK for TV in you need to

Code: Select all

emerge xf86-video-ati
Then you need Avview from http://gatos.sourceforge.net/avview.php
and follow the instructions there

I use the kernel "radeon" driver for dri on the AIW 7200 which works fine.

For the AIW 9800 I use ati-drivers and ati opengl for dri and xorg opengl and xorg ati drivers for tv, a bit long winded but it works for now .
Also for the AIW 9800 you need a microcode file from the windows driver package and as yet I cannot get sound to work !!

I also suggest a good trawl through the mailing list archives here
