I had worked with Gentoo as root for a long time, but yesterday I decided to create a new user. So I ceated it and everything is OK, except one thing: keybord layout aren't working. KDE Keybord Tool shows "Error" and

Code: Select all

eimis@localhost ~ $ setxkbmap us
Error loading new keyboard description
With root everything works great. So can you help me?

I got exactly the same problem.
I have in my xorg.conf :
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard1"
Driver "kbd"
Option "AutoRepeat" "500 30"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "fr_CH"
#Option "XkbLayout" "ch"
Option "XkbVariant" "fr"
EndSection

And the xorg logs :
syntax error: line 1 of pc
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error: Error interpreting include file "pc"
> Exiting
> Abandoning symbols file "default"
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

Or exactly the same with setxkbmap -layout fr_CH -rules xorg -model pc105 :
Error loading new keyboard description

Sorry, I can't use code tag with my keyboard...

EDit : Forgot to tell that I also produce same error with root

Code: Select all

setxkbmap -rules xorg -model pc105 -layout "ch" -variant fr -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
