I don't remember if it was in this thread, but I also was bothered by it. The 'solution' (more properly to be called workaround) is to make the panel 43 pixels in height.

Theres a patch for that issue. Annoyed me too.

I'm running 3.5.2, upgraded from... well, some old version. I installed it w/o the xcomposite USE flag, and now I want transparancies. I tried 'emerge kde --newuse' after putting xcomposite in USE, but it doesn't seem to work. Doesn't remerge... emerge thinks everything is fine. Transparancies of course won't work.

My upgrade seems to be compiling nicely but I seem to have lost almost all Kde 3.4 settings. Are they going to be restored once I finish emerging?
Or is this problem different? I accidentally started Kde 3.5 this morning and I aborted what seemed to be a very long startup. Was it copying my settings then?

My experience is that when I active the composite stuff in KControl I need to restart KDE for it to actually work. Also, have you set up your Xorg.conf correctly?

As far as I know when you start KDE 3.5 for the first time after upgrading from 3.4 it copies everything from ~/.kde3.4 to ~/.kde3.5 (or something like that) and all settings in 3.5 should be about the same in 3.4 (I recall there were some issues with some settings, not sure). If you're done with installing, you could move the new 3.5 out of the way and start 3.5 again. It should copy the 3.4 stuff over. Have some patience because it could take a while (your ~/.kde3.4 can be quite big).

I don't know if it's inappropriate to say, but I compiled KDE 3.5.2 with gcc 3.4.5 and everything has worked absolutely perfectly.
Go figure.

Yes, I followed the instructions on the wikipedia entry... restarted KDE, the system, everything. No love. :(

Everything went fine here. I did enlarge the task bar a little bit, that helped solve that multiple row problem.
Are there any cool new features I should try out? I used the new zeroconf slave and that works great!

I've upgraded from Kde 3.4.3 so this is probably just a 3.5 feature, sorry to confuse you.

I am having a problem since upgrading from KDE 3.4.x to 3.5.2 with Konqueror no longer having the correct File Associations. I used to be able to click on a tar file or a gz file or a zip file and Konqueror would open it just like is was a directory and let me browse the contents. It no longer does this. How do I fix this?

I normally don't run unstable versions but since the "stable" version of dbus was not comatible with KDE 3.4 I decided to get a version of KDE that was compatible. Seem like marking something like dbus as stable when it is not compatible with the stable version of KDE should be against policy. But what do I know?

3.5.2 is unstable. If you were running unstable branch you would have a sufficient version of dbus.

I just upgraded to 3.5.2 from 3.4. Has hal and dbus been replaced in 3.5? I heard that they had. Regardless, it seems that when I insert a usb key under 3.5.2 it doesn't automount.

I resolved this problem by installing a recent Kernel (>=2.6.15) and HAL 0.5.7.
I was unable to have automount working with another version of HAL.

HAL 0.5.7 is a masked ebuild.

I have 2.6.15-gentoo-r1, hal 0.5.7, dbus 0.61-r1, and ivman 0.6.8 and I still can't get anything to automount. hal and ivman fail to load when the computer is booting.
I had a problem with hal once before that revdep-rebuild fixed, but no such luck this time :(
No idea if it helps you but I have hal/dbus/pmount (the latest in the stable x86 tree, not ~x86). I removed ivman at some point in history, I don't know why. Anyways, it works great in KDE 3.5.2 and Gnome (except that it doesn't want to eject normally must of the time so I need to 'sudo eject' it).

Automounting works here but:
where can I specify the mountpoint?
can I let users umount?

users can mount if you put users in the fstab

But users can mount, they just can not umount... And kde does not mount at the mountpoints specified in fstab.

As of this morning (friday) it cleared itself after a sync, so that's gone. I was syncing once a day, sometimes twice, for the past couple days.

Now to fight other gremlins...

Strange size issue

Post by MaBu-Gentoo » Sat Apr 29, 2006 11:14 pm

I am getting error that the size is not right. http://pastebin.com/689350

Code: Select all

marburjek var # ls -l kdelibs-3.5.2.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root portage 15442103 apr 30 01:08 kdelibs-3.5.2.tar.bz2

Code: Select all

#
!!! Got: Filesize does not match recorded size
#
!!! Expected: 15442103
TO me this seems the same number.

First thing was that SHA256 was wrong then after some sync hash is right but size is wrong. I tried different mirrors but always file size with ls -l is right and portage always reports that the size isn't right.

I am in process of changing gcc from 3.3.6 to 3.4 i emerged -e system and everything in it is recompiled except wget, which trows errors. And now when I want to do emerge -e world this error bothrs me.

if it'll be usefull:

Code: Select all

Try to recompile wget with USE="-*",

or,

remove all the files in portage considering wget(also the files in /usr/portage/distfiles just to be sure), empty your /tmp directory and perform a sync.

Then try again.. if it failes,

digest the ebuild using "ebuild <ebuild file>(which in your case is kde, I think.. not sure, could also b kdelibs) digest" in the directory where the .ebuild for kde or kdelibs is located. (Somewhere in /usr/portage/kde-base.. u can search after it using "find -name kde*.ebuild" which will probably give lots of results. lets see if I can find it in a jip..)

EDIT: path = /usr/portage/kde-base/kde

if that fails, I'm out of ideas.
