Gamer swaping distros

Hello, I plan on switching from Ubuntu to Gentoo, and I have 3 games installed that I activly play. They are ut2004, quake4, and Never Winter Nights. I assume taking the ~/.[game] folder should be 100% okay, and not cause any problems, however, I do not want to install these games again. So copying the /usr/local/games/ut2004 /quake4 and /nwn folders to a backup disk, and then into gentoo should work also, but the problem is how can I get the package manager to create the links in /usr/bin for the games and the mods for ut2004? If I emerge ut2004, can I get the install process to continue without the cd (same question for quake4 and nwn)? Also, for gentoo standards, are games installed to /usr/local/games/[game] or is it done in /opt? I really do not want to go through installing the games from the cds again as it is going to be a bitch to find all the cds and the cd-keys.

On a partially related matter, what is the best filesystem to use for gaming. I know ext3 is definatly not the choice, so by searching through the forums, I've narrowed it down to reiser4 or xfs. I wanted to stay away from Reiser4 as it constantly uses some CPU power (or was that only reiserfs3?). I couldn't care less about partition shrinking/resizing as I have no need for it. So, in your opinion, reiser4 or xfs for a machine strictly used for gaming (and porn, porn really sucks on an older laptop). Thanks to all that reply.

Probably easiest to make the symlinks yourself.

Nope.

emerge installs binaries into /opt as the default.

The cd key for UT2004 is in its System/cdkey file.

There's nothing wrong with ext3, it can be optimized.

It's probably best to reinstall using an ebuild because two years from now you'll forget you installed it manually, which leads to all kinds of frustrations.
