I just saw that wine 0.9.11 has been released (been away over the weekend).
I will try that one due to the OpenGL fixes and so on.

Ok. running 0.9.11 with wow_patch.
23-25fps in westfall. lagging like crazy when using gryphon.

Glxgears shows

53734 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10743.777 FPS
55292 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11058.275 FPS
58654 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11730.755 FPS
60263 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12048.976 FPS
63843 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12768.559 FPS
64795 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12958.882 FPS
65180 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13035.883 FPS
62063 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12412.484 FPS
58901 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11780.057 FPS

------------------------------------

I really hate this :( I can't understand whats decreasing the performance this badly :(

I have a simmilar problem, so its not just you 8)

I, too had awesome performance months ago, but I had a problem with ventrilo emulation (having to have the ventrilo window active to talk) and I kinda lead a raid, so my voice is needed :( I do not remember the exact versions of everything I had installed... i think wine 0.9.6 from CVS, and version 6k of the nvidia drivers.

A couple days ago I decided to redo all my partitions and give wine another go at WoW.
0.9.8-r1 stable (with wine-wowpatch ofcourse)
nvidia-kernel 1.0.8178-r3
gentoo-sources 2.6.15-r7
xorg 6.8.2-r6

and it ran fine till I went into MC.... then it was like 5 fps all the way through.
notice that i didnt see a performance hit till I entered MC where you have like 39 ppl, AB was a little choppy but I figured it was just the normal crappy server-side lag.

"Config.wtf"

Code: Select all

SET hwDetect "0"
SET gxColorBits "24"

SET AmbienceVolume "0.60000002384186"
SET Gamma "1.000000"
SET EnableMusic "0"
SET UnitNamePlayer "0"
and my glxgears output is very simmilar NV40?
p.s. I assume you need ctra.... didnt think to try and disable it, although that would be a bad thing for both of us.

Now i have tried with latest Cedega and guess, well, i had an increase in performance. But not that much.
Around 30-35fps stable in westfall, and 15-20 in IF.
But had bad graphical lockups instead that last around 2-3sec then "warps" me to the right position where i should be.
Right now, Wine vs. Cedega seems like have to choose between a Broken Arm vs. Broken Leg. :(

Can't understand it, well, it seems that i shouldnt be playing wow throu a linux system. :(

I also tried Ventrilo emu and didnt work as planned. But i mostly use that to communicate with friends.
My guild are using TeamSpeak which works well while playing WoW.

I ment that also. Running ventrilo win32 on wine is not bug free :)
Its better to use TeamSpeak under linux which have a linux support.
Ventrilo are working on their linux version.

A simple question (I didn't find any answer): if you use Ventrilo with Wine/Cedega: do you still hear the ingame sound?

I cannot. since I have to use OSS in wine with Vent, it hogs the sound device.

In cedega if you set the OS to anything other than win98 it slows down to a crawl. Also if you start say ventrilo with wine then start WoW with cedega , itll run mad slow. This is probably due to something to do with wine trying to eat all the video card resources or what not.

Hi , although i'm ati user i have few tips.
  • config.wtf:
    SET gxApi "opengl"
    SET gxRenderer "d3d"
    (boosts performance)
  • also switching of vsync & pixel shaders did some fps increase
  • try ck-sources, with gentoo-sources and ati-drivers i wasn't able to run any wine,opengl app at all
  • Have you applied WoW_fixes patch to your wine ebuild?
  • if you have compiled system with pthreads support try runing WoW with wine-pthread instead of wine
loKi(home-server) : 2.6.15-gentoo-r3 , i686 Pentium III (Katmai)
Kathleen(desktop) : 2.6.16-ck10 , x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
You will be compiled. Resistance is futile.

Are you using xinerama? If so turn it off.
I have submitted a bug @ wine because if you have xinerama on wow will not be accelerated not matter what.
This stinks but if it's your problem then you will at least be able to play switching xinerama on and off when you need.
