forcedeth nforce4 network not working [solved]

Hello all.
A long while ago, I had gentoo up and running on this system 3200+ amd64 on a nforce4 mb.
I believe I had somewhere around 2.6.12 or so kernel, and everything was peachy. I had to completly erase my harddrives and repartition everything due to some bad space allocation (my own fault)

I got the new 2006.0 live cd and reinstalled gentoo from it. networking worked in it, as it had on the old system. using 3 different kernels 2.6.14 2.6.15 (gentoo-sources) and 2.6.16 (mm-sources) I am not getting net.lo or eth0 to load properly.

I cannot post exact messages, due to not having access trying to do the best from memory. on the livecd the card was eth1 due to firewire being eth0. lsmod on the live cd gives forcedeth as the module for networking. (i donot have 2 network interfaces like some nforce4 boards have, just the nvidia one) with forcedeth as a module or compiled in, i get the same error when booting something along the lines of interface not up.

in dmesg it shows the nvidia network adaptor being detected, as well as in lspci. and dmesg also has a line having eth0: and has forcedeth and the address for the nvidia adaptor from the other dmseg line (i hope you all understand this)
if it is installed as module, modprobe -r forcedeth removes the light on the router, and modprobe forcedeth puts it back on, and no error upon loading it.

I am hoping someone will have some suggestions as to what to do I hope its just me forgetting something simple that I did about 6months ago when I initially installed :/

Well i have had wierd problems with two seperate forcedeth cards. According to some easily findable website, thses network chips get confused and stop talking to anyone, even though it thinks its up. I have fixed the problem by turning off the computer, unplugging, pressing power button to drain capacitors, and turning back on. Sounds wierd but the fix worked for me.

I know it's a terse post, if this is confusing i can clarify. Sounds like my problem all right.

I finally got it to work. Thankyou for your help, all of you.

the solution : ifconfig didnt install

#emerge net-tools from the live cd fixed it all up.
