Try the 'i810_audio' module instead of 'intel8x0'.

Right. Googling shows 'i810_audio' is for OSS... What does the noise sound like? Just random, or does it have some kind of structure?

EDIT: Googling a little more, it seems the sound on your chipset (Sis 756) was completely unsupported under Linux as of late October of last year. May just be that it's too new, unfortunately. :(

In that case there's another uadio card....
for me:
/proc/asound/cards

Code: Select all

0 [SI7012 ]: ICH - SiS SI7012
That is supported...

Nevermind, the sound card chipset in the test I linked in is different, the northbridge is Sis 756. I need more coffee today, apparently  . Well, the ALSA Sound Card Matrix says to use 'intel8x0', so that does not seem to be it... Have you googled for another install of Linux on your machine?

I had identical problems with emu10k1 and audigy drivers. Alsa-1.0.10. Upgrading to 1.0.11rc* fixed all problems, so give it a try.

same problem with my a6km (q004p), very annoying.
i tested different livecds, latest alsa drivers from cvs, deprecated oss drivers and even commercial oss, always with the same result.
cannot find the link yet but i found thread where it was proposed to test the buggy_semaphore option.
i tried to add options snd-intel8x0 buggy_semaphore=1 to /etc/modules.d/alsa, but with that option the drivers could not be loaded.
maybe someone of you has luck with that option?

from https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa- ... hp?id=1898

Code: Select all

# USE=debug emerge alsa-driver
# echo "7a 57c1" > /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0+regs
worked for me at the second try (the first frozen my soundcard and I got to do "/etc/init.d/alsasound restart" )
Mic works too, and with 4 chan mode you can use line-in as a second headphone slot (seems)

GG Now it's the third line for my local.start (first be echo ondemand > [blabla] and second the acpi battery runlevel thing)

There's just a last problem (don't know if it is not OT)

This notebook (A6KM-Q005H for me) sometimes, no matter sound settings, shouts out a 1 sec long "BEEEEP" (NB: not the normal system beep, this is MUCH louder, and randomly generated.)
