[solved] using gentoo as a router / internet sharing

Post by bigfam » Thu Mar 23, 2006 11:10 am

Hello, okay heres the deal
My main gentoo box is connected directly to the internet via pppoe(dsl). I have two nics in this machine, one NIC for the internet, the other NIC connects to my sisters box via a crossover cable.

I used the following guide here.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/home-router-howto.xml

My sisters PC gets an ip address via dhcp, and she can lookup dns hostnames, but she cannot browse the net.

According to the walkthrough she should be able to use the internet after doing the iptables config, but she can't get online. I do not get any errors when going through it and I setup everything verbatim as per the guide.

I don't know where else to start, can anyone help me please?

Hi.

Show the output of ipconfig -all.
If you can't ping an outside host from her computer, are you sure that the default gateway is properly set?
Jorge.
