dpgk issues?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Not really sure if this belongs here but..... Im trying to un-pak a .deb file and not having much success. I get this error when i try :

RingoChen install # dpkg -i winex3_3.2-1.i386.deb
dpkg: can't mmap package info file `/usr/lib/db/status': No such device

However the other switches work fine on the .deb file. Any suggestions?

thanks

I'm having the same problems with other .deb files as well.

Code: Select all

dpkg: failed to open package info file `/usr/lib/db/status' for reading: No such file or directory

I'd assume that it tries to access the debian package database which is of course not-existant on Gentoo.

Use the ar utility to unpack debs:

Code: Select all

ar xf yourfile.deb

reviving an old thread.

So, the db is missing. But there must be a way to create it. I mean, when dowloading a deb, part of the intention is to have dpkg tracking it so it can be easily removed later, don't you think?

There must be a way.

I too am having this problem. I'm not sure what good it is having an ebuild for dpkg if there is no means for creating `/usr/lib/db/status'.
