planeshift troubles

  • Quote

Post by hook » Wed Apr 16, 2003 9:25 am

i downloaded the newest planeshift (precompiled) and when i run it via psclient i get:

Code: Select all

Warning: Failed to load 'gl3d'; use '-verbose' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load 'gl3d'; use '-verbose' argument for details.
WARNING: Could not load plugin 'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl'
aws-debug: Coulnd't find iGraphics2D plugin!!
psclient: No 3d driver (iGraphics3D) plugin!
the -verbose flag doesn't work, btw

so i tried psclient-bin, and got this:

Code: Select all

no CEL environement variable set!
Segmentation fault
...any idea why it doesn't work? ...any luck with your install?

I'd say emerge planeshift, it'll grab the correct crystalspace version and all...

Worked for me

yea, the problem is, that in portage there is planeshift 0.2.006 and the server wants a higher version (probably .010 which is the latest) ...using .006 didn't upload the avatar ("server supports a higher version").

there's the catch :I

0.2.010 is in portage and masked (though when i run it it says it's .008 :?)

it starts, uploads the character ...the only prob is that it's way too laggy :(

...i have a nvidia geforce 2 MX, which runs nwn and ut2k3 perfectly (also tuxracer, ...)

but when i set planeshift to run opengl it's a bit less laggy (notice: A BIT less laggy!), but around my animated X11 cursor i get a inch or so big square that's not in the same time as the current picture.

when i set it to software renderer, it's REALLY laggy, and everything looks awfull

...any ideas? or is it meant to be like this???

well, your only supposed to export the CRYSTAL variable before you start planeshift, although the way ebuilds work, I don't think this has any effect at all on the build process (since ebuilds check a local db for installed packages, right?).

So in short: no idea, I would suggest unmerging crystal space, and then emerging planeshift.

I had the same problem (actually, my firstproblem was that emerge didnt set $CRYSTAL up, and I had to export it). After reading the configure file, found the culprit to be "cel". The cel.cex file was copied in my case to /usr/games/bin . After I copied that file (cel.cex) to /opt/crystal/bin and /opt/crystal/lib (both locations) the install proceeded for me.

Hope this helps

anybody else getting this problem ? any clues as to what may be going on here- the game looks really cool, but I have yet to be able to get it running
(by the way why does it not list libopengl32 as a dependency anywhere ? I kept getting errors which prevented the game from even being launched until I figured out that thzis library is part of winex...and then i had to waint while winex-cvs installed in order to to even launch the thing....)

I have set CRYSTAL=/opt/crystal, set CEL to the where cel.cex is (can't remember) and it just won't compile. I'm getting a serious amount of programming errors, stuff like this:

Code: Select all

To me this looks like its not finding some library it needs? I've had a look at the planeshift website, but their forums are terrible, the search feature wasn't working, (I tried with several common words such as linux and kept getting back "no posts found")

if you want to run a version not in portage, emerge it using --onlydeps first - that will make sure you have the latest versions of its dependancys, then install it by hand (or better yet, roll your own ebuild!)

don't know how this happened, but i emerged PS again (because my previous emerge was binary, and this one is said to be from the latest source package) ...well, let's just say that i haven't seen ATOMIC blue up until today :D ...well it's no use, i'll have to remove it and do it by hand since AB won't run on the server :?

well, i figured it out.

Code: Select all

emerge planeshift
now works, it was probably a temporary glitch that installed AB instead MB :D

for no apparent reason you have to run

Code: Select all

playplaneshift
in order to play planeshift :? ...what was wrong with only planeshift?

you have to run /opt/planeshift/pssetup and /opt/planeshift/updater as root, and for playplaneshift you have to be in the games group

(actually i wanted to post only the bit that AB was just a glitch, and now works ok)

I got the same problems as some of you.

i have to export CRYSTAL="/opt/crystal"
copy the cel.cel to where it should be.
But now i always got:
LinkApplication updater
...failed updating 56 target(s)...
...skipped 10 target(s)...
...updated 93 target(s)...

!!! ERROR: app-games/planeshift-0.2.010 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 26, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)
