Yes, you will need a patched version of QT.

And to get 3.3.5, unmask it and you should be right.

Let us know how you go.

Ok so I will start right away but what all should I recompile? All the packages patched by pertty ebuilds or just the QT libs or all the packages depending on QT? Thanx for your patience :)

I think the patches will need to be modified to work with 3.5. So, it may take a bit for that. I might have time to work on it this weekend, unless Taskara does. We'll see. :)

Well, it looks like the Kicker patches have already been applied, so that is no longer needed in this pertty patch set. :D

I fixed some patch problems and made new ebuilds. I call this a beta release of the Pertty Patchset because I did not fix the problems with the new sidebar, so I removed that part of the patch. There is a lot of code to go through for that so it will take awhile to find and fix that part, so you need to do without that neat sidebar. :( But, you get all the other goodies. :D Well, I think. I am still testing this, so let me know how it works and report all issues here so I can fix them. :)

Download here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=375694

You need to recompile kdelibs first, I imagine. Well, enjoy. I will get to work on that sidebar now, but I have a lot to do, so it may take a bit. If you want to help, just download a previous version of the Pertty Patches and liik in the Konqueror patch at all the sidebar stuff. Thanks.

Stiff.

Edit: Well, it looks like the list view of Konquorer crashes it. -_- So, I will be looking at that tomorrow. I am too tired now. But everything else seems to work so far. Now you know why this is beta. :P

No problems that I noticed here on KDE 3.5

In list view, selection is transparent blue like it should be, but highlighted text is square, not rounded. I don't know if this is normal or not, but haven't noticed any other issues.

I just released beta2. I took out the Konqueror patches because they were trouble. I need to work on them when I have time.

@MorLipf: No, the new sidebar is not there yet. I need to do a lot of porting to make that work. It will take sometime.

kde 3.4.3 is stable, so unless you are running a ~ARCH system, kde 3.5.0 should not be emerged. But, is you are running a ~ARCH system, then you need to add every kde 3.5.0 package to package.mask. Which is a lot of packages. Why do you not want to run kde 3.5.0? It seems to be faster and more stable than kde 3.4.x. However, kde 3.5.1 is due to be released sometime soon. They did a freeze on things that go into that version, so it shouldn't be too long now. :D That will be even more stable.

You currently have the split ebuilds installed but you are trying to update to the monolithic ebuilds.

Try

Code: Select all

emerge kde-meta -pv
Edit: kaitos, if you are staying with the KDE 3.4.X series, you don't need any entries in /etc/portage/package.keywords.

To use these patches, you use the portage overlay directory. (Usually /usr/local/portage)
You uncompress the file you downloaded from the first page here. Then you do an

Code: Select all

emerge -uD world -pv
you should see a [1] after the items that are to be emerged which we just placed in the overlay.

or

Code: Select all

emerge -av kdebase-meta kdeartwork-meta
But, it seems as though you have all that installed, so maybe you just need to extract those files to your portage overlay and just re-emerge those files:

Code: Select all

emerge -av qt kdelibs kcontrol kdesktop libkonq

I have just read about Kororaa. I really like the idea and tried to download the ISO images via BitTorrent but they seems dead (red icon in Azureus). Have you got any info about it?

------ EDIT -------
Azureus have finally found 2 sources for the install-CD. It still doesn't see any for the x86-packages-CD.

------ EDIT 2 -------
Both Install CD and Package CD (K x86) are now seeded.

I'm currently testing that. The patch names do have to be renamed for sure.

Edit: I have changed the names and added the patches to the 3.5.1 ebuilds and so far they all have worked without issue.
If someone has the web space to spare I can send a new overlay for them to post.

Sent. I also put a copy at ftp://www.pcnsolutions.ca/kde-3.5.1-spl ... a2.tar.bz2.

There is no guarantee on the bandwidth or how long it will be there, but for now, we will see how it goes.

Edit: Stupid mistake in ebuild. New beta2 version. If you emerged some packages already, only kdelibs changed.

Edit: Patched, compiled, and installed. Work perfectly like previous version.

I've been busy, but I will get to it. I promise that. :)

But, I suggest that you all delete the qt ebuild out of the perrty patches and install this qt instead:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-42 ... ight-.html
It has the perrty patch in it. :D Plus some really nice goodies. Read that first post to get the install instructions, but don't forget to enable the pertty use flag. ;) I am using it right now and it rocks. It is based on QT 3.3.5, so it has a lot of nice features. You need to unmask this version though.

You also need to modify your kde.eclass file and put that in the overlay and recompile all of KDE 3.5.x Look at my post on page four of that thread where I explain how to do that nicely with a nice one line command. :) But, you only need to do that if you add the -fvisibility-inlines-hidden compile option to your make.conf file. But, believe me, it's worth it. :) I hope this makes it into portage. The speed is really nice. Everything KDE is just faster.

Cheers.
