unstable internet connection

I run gentoo and windows dual boot on my computer. When on windows, I dont ever have problems with my internet connection, but when on gentoo, I am often losing connection. When it first goes down, I cannot use any program to access the internet, but am still able to ping servers, after a while I stop being able to ping. Then to get online again, I have to run dhcpcd. Is there anything that I could have compiled wrong that would cause this? I have no problems with this when my computer is at home, just here in the dorm.

Possibly running something that causes the dorm's firewall to shut you down?

I have the same issue...

When I return to my computer after being idle for 2+ hours (generally) or so, I have no internet connectivity, so I run

~# /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart

to get back online. Any ideas?
