Oh.

Never thought about that.

I'll give that a try.

Hey guys. Could somebody point me out a howto on setting up the tvout functionality of a i810 compatible card with this version of Xorg? I have a i900gml intel card, read the man pages, tried so many kinds of setup but still all i get from my tv i a little flicker when i hit fn+CRT/LCD.

Thank you. Keep up the good work.

PS.: Is the project ever going to be updated again since the modular Xorg 7 is out already?

I don't know, I've never used TV-out in linux. But I guess it shouldn't be to hard if it's supported. Google turns up quite a few results on a search.

I'll probably at least port the compose cache patch to 7.0 when I migrate myself. But 6.9 is running nicely so I don't have any plans to do that currently. The other changes are not that exciting.

Anyway I updated the overlay. Not much is new except for a updated compose cache patch from suse 10.1 beta1 and a repacked patch tarball.

(the x11-drm drivers don't even load, (unresolved symbol pci_pretty_name or somethin like that)), but the result (without dri) is the same! So it should come from X itself)

Can you do something to work with this X version if you have a savage chipset? Can anybody help? The 'stable' X don't support savage-dri... :(
I had xorg-x11 6.9 (from the overlay in the first post) with a working savage drm until I compiled a new kernel yesterday. I was using the 20050411 savage snapshot from dri.freedesktop.org. Then I tried today's snapshot, to no avail (look at my post here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-14 ... t-225.html). So it seems that the old snapshots worked with 6.9, but the new snapshots don't. I will try to downgrade my module with an older snapshot, let's see if it will work again.

[EDIT] 20050411 will not compile. :?
[EDIT] 20051220 produces an error when modprobing (dmesg: savage: Unknown symbol drm_addmap)
[EDIT] 20050718 produces: savage: Unknown symbol pci_pretty_name; Unknown symbol drm_addmap :x

[EDIT] Kernel that worked: 2.6.13-gentoo-r3; kernel that didn't: 2.6.14-suspend2-r7

Findings: Qt patch

Post by ViRgiLiO » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:14 pm

I see in your repository a patch for qt-3.3.5. I'm curious. Could you explain us what are the improvements in this patch? And, how can we use it? Could you create a new qt overlay ebuild (it would be really great)? Thanks in advance.

It's a snapshot of qt-copy from KDE SVN. It's a qt enhanced with various fixed and optimizations by the KDE devs, usually meant to be sent upstream. Qt needs to be patched anyway to allow KDE to be compiled with symbol visibilty enabled so I thought why not tweak this thing too. :) I'll announce it here soon along with some other KDE performance tips.

Yes, see bug 116195, it has a patch to fix it.

I put =x11-base/xorg-x11-6.9* -* to your /etc/portage/package.keywords and when i tyoe emerge -pv xorg-x11
I get only version x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6.

I put untarred files in /usr/local/portage/xorg-x11 am i missing something?

Did you include "~x86" or your architecture, like

Code: Select all

=x11-base/xorg-x11-6.9* -* ~x86
in your package.keywords?

I just installed the 6.9.0 ebuild and am having some strange behavior. I am using the radeon open source driver even though I have a Radeon 9600. I'm using MergedFB if that matters. When I have the AccelMethod set to EXA, dragging is unusably slow. Using the default XAA is fine.

Where it gets interesting is that as long as I'm using the Composite extension, EXA is fine. I can have translucent windows with shadows that I can drag around faster than when I'm not using Composite, even though I'm using EXA in both cases. Of course, Composite with XAA is still slow, but I think that's expected.

It's not like I need to be using EXA, but it is the direction things are moving in so I thought I'd ask this question.

Following the gentoo howto about xgl, it seems we need to migrate to modular X, so... How's that effort to migrate compose patches to modular? Hasn't Suse done that?

;)

Hello,

Installed the new ebuild from 9th february yesterday with the benh-radeon-fixes patches enabled.
First it did not compile with this error:

Code: Select all

After changing line 35 in the mentioned file from

//#define RADEONCTRACE(x) RADEONTRACE(x)

to

/* #define RADEONCTRACE(x) RADEONTRACE(x) */

and commenting it out this way it compiled fine. Dont know if it comes from the patch.
There are no differences to the situation without the two patches, same performance, no failures in the picture on every 3D-application I tested (ppracer, Q3...).
But there is an issue with glxgears: Some parts of the desktop "tremble" while running this benchmark.
The shown FPS is the same like before.
If you or Ben is interested in some tests, logfiles, etc just ask.

Some details to my system that might be important:

Amilo A 7600 with Radeon IGP 320M
Kernel 2.6.15-gentoo-r5
KDE 3.5.1

Greets

Thomas

PS: Can it be that some parts of this thread disappeared, especially the part where you anounced the ebuild from 9th of
february?

I updated the patchset and link in the first post to the latest radeon patches. See if it works better for you. Otherwise I'm sure benh would like to hear about it!

It' a known issue, already disscussed in dri devel mailing list. Just edit the patch and in patch file radeon cursor change '//' C++ style comment to /**/ c comment type.

I didn't knew that this ebuild has the patch, but i added to my tar patchset and it appears to work great here. Just a little of copy paste in th patch file and you are ready to go. If you notest in your Xorg.log you'll see that some memory allocations are relocated....

The speed is the same, but i'll try to do a little hackish and see if now i can enable VideoRam to support 256MB, it doesn't appear to be difficult...

Compiled the overlay from today, absolutely no differences to the one from 3 days ago (the compile error still has to be fixed manually too).
Of course, some things in Xorg.0.log changed with Benhs Radeon fix.

If it is important: I use the dri-snapshot from 6th february for compiling the kernel modules (drm.ko and radeon.ko), as it gives a huge performance boost together with enabling Hyperz-Support via driconf.

New snapshot, try it again....

but if still fail, just edit the patch 8020 bens memory patch, search for radeon_cursor.c, and edit the comment //#define.....
to /*#define....*/

Save patch. Update tarball, delete digest, ebuild digest with new patch, emerge...
