[solved]Samsung 913n / 915n LCD display

Hi, i'm getting a new monitor and i've decided on a LCD Samsung 913n(915 in US).
The problem is that i've searched the forums and found out that the image gets an easy setup with some software MagicTune or something like that, of course Windows-only.
Has anyone tried this monitor on Linux ? ... please post your comments here.

I've got three Samsung 712N LCDs here, and they work great. MagicTune is really only for color correction, if I remember correctly... and, actually, I can remember ever having actually run the software at all...

I suspect that you won't have to worry about it.

I am also considering buying a 913N. Did you actually buy the monitor ? If yes, please share your experience.

That's great to hear. Needless to say I really care if it works in Linux and from what I've heard not all LCDs do.

I've been reading this review here. The review points three main problems:

One:
Oddly, the contrast showed flagrant instability.
...
As with the LG1915S, this monitor interprets the contrast and brightness the user wants and then makes its own calculations. The intentions behind this may be good, but it ends up making adjustment more difficult. On the other monitors, when the brightness is too high, all you need to do is lower it. On the 913N, you'll also have to increase the contrast a little.
Is your experience the same, are adjustments any problem ?

Two:
With office applications, we found the Samsung monitor less sharp than its competitors.
Is text sharpness any problem ? I intend to be using the monitor for lots of reading and coding apart from games so, needless to say, this is important.

Three:
For video, on the other hand, the situation is still as bad as it was for the previous two models. The viewing angles are very narrow and video noise is still present.
Is watching videos any problem ? Frankly, I'd be surprised if it is given that the monitor is good for gaming, but asking won't hurt :).

I intend to be using it under Linux only, should it matter.

Not any problems with contrast, its fine and there are easy to select pre sets for brightness / contrast using the 'magicbright' button on the front of the monitor.

Sharpness, its fantastic, my 2nd screen at work is a 15" CRT that is really crisp, I was supprised how sharp the text on this screen is :D

This screen is giving me a good horizontal viewing angle - as soon as I stand up right in front of it then it goes a little but how often do a try using it while looking right down on it ;) (never)

As for response - perfect, only last week finished playing my way through HL2 - compared to the first time i played it (14" CRT) WOW! higher res, better quality and no problems at all :D

I'd certainly recommend the monitor to anyone looking for a TFT :D
