Post by point3 » Fri Jan 06, 2006 5:54 pm

Hi!

I can't boot system for installation. Once it hits sata_sx4 - system stops for 15 minuts, then continues to boot. When it gets to "configuring to use with udev" - it hangs! Any ideas?

Hardware:
ASUS P4C800 with 1024 RAM with P4-3.0Ghz HT
promise s150 sx4-m raid 5 controller
4x seagate 400GB sata hdds

Thanks!

Code: Select all

livecd ~ # ls /dev/sd*
/dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd
livecd ~ # fdisk

Usage: fdisk [-l] [-b SSZ] [-u] device
E.g.: fdisk /dev/hda (for the first IDE disk)
or: fdisk /dev/sdc (for the third SCSI disk)
or: fdisk /dev/eda (for the first PS/2 ESDI drive)
or: fdisk /dev/rd/c0d0 or: fdisk /dev/ida/c0d0 (for RAID devices)
  ...
livecd ~ # fdisk /dev/sda
System hanged here!

According to my copy of the SCSI standard, sense key 0x3 is "MEDIUM ERROR", and ASC=0x11, ASCQ=0x4 means "UNRECOVERED READ ERROR - AUTO REALLOCATE FAILED". Normally this would mean that the drives are dead, but it could simply be a driver bug.

The drives are ok, I put them to RAID 5 array and put W2K, it works fine.
