Are there any nice tools to work with motorola phones

Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

I'm having similar problems. I'm running all ~x86 and kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r9n . I went ahead and downloaded the CVS and compiled outside of portage (i know.... i know..) and things seemed to work great two or three times. I managed to see the filesystem of the phone and I downloaded a custom ringtone i made ( Jerky Boys - Frank Rizzo).

The next day, I come back and nothing works. As far as I can tell, nothing changed except the day. SO what happened??? *frustrating and mysterious*. I get all the errors mentioned above plus this using tail -f /var/log/demesg:

Code: Select all

Oct 23 15:45:01 localhost usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 11
Oct 23 15:45:04 localhost ohci_hcd 0000:00:02.1: wakeup
Oct 23 15:45:04 localhost usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 12
Oct 23 15:45:05 localhost usb 2-1: device not accepting address 12, error -110
Oct 23 15:45:05 localhost usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 13
Oct 23 15:45:05 localhost usb 2-1: device not accepting address 13, error -110
Oct 23 15:45:05 localhost usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 14
Oct 23 15:45:05 localhost cdc_acm 2-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
when I plug/unplug the device.

I also get the message that moto4lin can't recognize the model name, although it shows up as a v220 on the list in preferences when i update list...

Is there an alternative to moto4lin ???

I also can't sync to the phone under windows. I wonder if something went bonkers in my phone... at this point anyhting is possibles

Can someone give me a hand? I'm having problems getting my RAZR V3c to connect using moto4lin. The system seems to detect it, but I can't make the program connect to it.

I changed under preferences the ACM device to /dev/ttyACM0, but still no luck. I read that I may need to do a 'echo AT+MODE=8 > /dev/ttyACM0' before it works, and it got rid of some of the errors, but I still can't get it to connect.

The program says this when I hit the connect button:

Code: Select all

[info] AT phone found
[info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...
[error] Unable to connect
If I need to provide more info please let me know.

I'm making some kind of progress but still no success. I can get moto4lin to connect to the phone, but I'm getting errors:

Code: Select all

[info] Phone connected as P2K
[error] Unable to get phone model
[error] Unable to get drive name
[error] Unable to get file count
[error] Unable to get drive name
Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe the software jsut can't handle the RAZR V3c. Using p2ktest I get this output:

Code: Select all

P2k Test
Device list:
0000:0000: [Linux 2.6.13-suspend2-r4 uhci_hcd] [UHCI Host Controller]
22b8:2a62: [Motorola, Inc.] [Motorola V3c]
0000:0000: [Linux 2.6.13-suspend2-r4 uhci_hcd] [UHCI Host Controller]
0000:0000: [Linux 2.6.13-suspend2-r4 uhci_hcd] [UHCI Host Controller]
0000:0000: [Linux 2.6.13-suspend2-r4 ehci_hcd] [EHCI Host Controller]
No phone found.

Mikegpitt-

I am in the same place as you regarding moto4lin and the RAZR V3c. My thinking is, it has only been out a few weeks and it would not surprise me if Verizon put it on lock-down in terms of hacking. However, I think folks in WiNland are able to do as they wish.

Using Sashman's original setup for moto4lin (see above) and my RAZR V3c, I have been able to use Bitpim 0.8.04 build to access my phone rather nicely. So far, I have been able to browse the filesystem and upload new wallpaper.

Ahh... I actually gave up on it and figured I'd wait for another update to moto4lin. Now I'll have to give it another go... I'll report back what happens soon.

Short-Timer: How did you get it working? I'm havign problems. I upgraded to bitpim 0.8.04 and set the 'Phone Type' to 'Other CDMA phone' and the 'Com port' as /dev/ttyACM0 but no luck. Bitpim can't seem to connect to the phone at all. I tried to run as root jsut to make sure there were no permission problems with ACM0 but no luck.

Can you post a little more detail on how you got it working?

Having no success with moto4lin with V3 phone on ppc.

Macmini david # moto4lin
Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
Form1
PhoneMan
New mode: 1
doActConnect
doActConnect
P2kProc::doConnect()
Killed
Macmini david #

The killed is when I try to connect P2K - it does the right things to that point then vanishes off the screen.
This is version 0.3 from portage. Does anyone know if I need a later version?
Or has anyone got it running on ppc.
Thanks
David

Mike;

1) You def. need to run Bitpim as root. The same access problems for ACM0 lingers here as it did/does with moto4lin.

2) Following Sashman's advice "First thing to do is setting the device-path. When you plug the phone hotplug and udev should create a device named "/dev/ttyACM0" (naturally the kernel-module "cdc_acm" must be present, you can find it in the USB-Section of the kernel-configuration). " is key. That kernel-module must be installed.

3) The settings for Bitpim, that you are trying, are the same as mine. a) Phone Type: Other CDMA phone... b) com port: /dev/ttyACM0

4) The setup will not let me get back to it now that I have it working, but I remember the first time I tried to set it up it gave me two choices in the detection stage, one was Motorola ...., and the other was just CDMA modem or something. The CDMA choice was the correct one.

5) After, what turns out to be, a correct installation, Bitpim give me (under the Filesystem tab) a file folder icon and a forward slash. I click on it and after about 30 seconds I get my phone's tree.

I am not sure if I made any progress towards helping you with that lengthy answer. Hit me up on the IM and maybe we can work through it together.

Most sincerely,

Short-Timer (Gus)

Thanks Short-Timer, it seems like I actually can view the filesystem. I didn't try that before... other parts aren't working which led me to believe that nothing was working.

Unfortunatly I'm still having problems. I can upload images to the /motorola/shared/picture, but when I try to add a ringtone to the /motorola/shared/audio dir or do anything with files in that die, pitpim throws an exception. Too bad the only reason I wanted to sync to my phone was to add a ringtone!

It seems like I can add a file the the/motorola/shared/ringtone dir, but I have no idea where those fiels go, since there is nothing in the dir, and it doesn't seem to appear anywhere when I load a file there.

2. logout, login again
3. chown your motorola device to root:tty

Code: Select all

bash$ chown root:tty /dev/ttyACM0
And try it at this point... If it still doesn't work, then:

4. chmod the motorola device as 777

Code: Select all

bash$ chmod 777 /dev/ttyACM0
Strange thing is that when I changed the scheme as I mentioned in my last post, I did not see a /dev/ttyACM0 anymore. Apparently this naming convention is part of the new scheme? No idea. However, I DID see something like /proc/bus/usb/002/0xx (where xx was given in dmesg) or something similar. I used this as the device (changing permissions as above) in moto4lin, which worked for me.

Of course, if you don't want to go through all of this, you might even try just:

Code: Select all

bash$ chown provicemo:users /dev/ttyACM0
old thread I know, but this might help some others....

If you are using udev, disregard all steps past 1 above (you still need to be in tty group)

then, as root, create this file in /etc/udev/rules.d/60-ttyASM.rules

inside that file, add this:

Code: Select all

KERNEL=="ttyACM[0-9]*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="phone", GROUP="tty", MODE="0777"
This creates the correct root.tty permissions for ttyACM0-9, plus creates a symlink to the device called phone, and sets the correct permissions for using kmobiletools and moto4lin to 0777 on /dev/ttyACM*

sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, I simply didnt want to read all threads while searching for how to convert seem map to moto4lin layout

Also, those having troubles connecting moto4lin to your phone, try this:
1 - start moto4lin without phone plugged in
2 - configure it using the correct values
3 - plug phone in and it should work

If you open moto4lin with phone plugged in, it will connect but not read files (least on my v600)

Has anyone on here been able to get either moto4lin or p2ktest to work with the E815 :?:

Code: Select all

New mode: 0

It will never connect, and won't list anything. I've tried everything I've read on this forum, and a few others. Curious if any one else has had luck with the E815 :?:

Thx,

I've got a RAZR V3 from Cingular.
I've installed p2kmoto. I run p2ktest & it works great.

...snip...
in moto4lin, i try to connect to my phone but it does not connect.
in the console that I run moto4lin from I get:

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

[info] Phone pluged as AT
Try to connect
[info] AT phone found
[info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...
[error] Unable to connect
I'm still just trying to get moto4lin to connect to my phone, so I haven't bothered with the udev rules & am running moto4lin as root.
Of course I've been trying the things that are listed in this thread, but nothing has been working for me...
I'm open to anything.

I can't even get the /dev/ttyACM0 device to show up? I have a v360, and I'm trying to get moto4lin to work with it as well. It can see the phone when I click on update list in the preferences, but I can't figure out which device to put in. I am wondering if one of my usb modules is taking over and not letting the acm module use the device?

Here is my dmesg:

I had wrote a step-by-step on the MLUG web site on using phones with linux and I thought I had posted this link already in this thread, but hadn't...sorry. Maybe this article can help. It was written using a V600 and Gentoo, 12 pages long, and covers fixes to most of the errors talked about in this thread....

RAZR V3c

Regarding access to P2K mode on the RAZR with the moto4lin tools, I have discovered that the AT product ID and the P2K Product are ID are identical in the preferences, but in fact, after you switch the device to P2K mode, and refresh the list of devices by using the "Update List" button in the preferences, you will notice that when in P2K mode, the product ID is one digit less than the product ID when the phone was in AT mode.

So, here are the steps to reproduce for your phone, if in fact you suffer the same problem I was experiencing, as described below.

Description of my problem:

I would load moto4lin, connect the phone, and it would say:

[info] Phone plugged as AT
Try to connect
[info] AT phone found

Then I would hit "Connect/Disconnect" and it would state:

[info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...
[error] Unable to connect
[info] Phone is unplugged

Steps to correct:
(Please note, any references to "Update List" are in the "Preferences" window, not the file manager window of moto4lin)

Connect phone via USB cable
Load moto4lin (preform as root or su if you suspect permission problems in addition)
Verify you are in "AT" mode, it should say "MODE: AT" in the status bar somewhere.
Click on "Preferences"
Click on "Update List" and verify the "Product ID" field listed for your phone matches the "AT Product ID" field near the top of the preferences page, it should, but let us be sure.

Now click on the "Switch to P2K" button.
Then click on "Update List" again, and find your phone in the list, only this time, verify the "Product ID" field matches your "P2K Product ID" setting near the top of the page..

If you are having the same problem I was, it will not match, so change the option near the top of the page to the value in the list and then press "OK".

moto4lin should now recognize the phone as a P2K device, and if you click on "Connect/Disconnect", you should now be connected.

Now, if near the first steps of this, you do not see "MODE: AT", but instead "MODE: NONE", then you most likely have the preference of "auto-connect to device" option enabled, and on connect it tries to switch to P2K mode, so the application loses track of the phone because the P2K Product ID is not correct.. In this case, just click on "Preferences" and then click on "Update List" and verify that the "Product ID" field matches the "P2K Product ID" option near the top of the page, press "OK", then press "Connect/Disconnect".

I hope that is helpful,
