hehe, got mine today... it's is unbelievable... it's like driving a porsche after you was worn to a vw/ford before...

needs some time to get used to, but it rocks under gentoo as it should (don't know if this is hardware-side, mouse internal memory or usb-polling since 2.6.12, but anyways, it rocks like hell)

my suggestion:
if you use a cherry keyboard, are a porsche driver or a fps-pro-gamer: GET THIS THING

greets, pech

EDIT: don't know if the 2 side buttons work, as i don't need them...

Concerning the buttons:
I own a Razer Diamondback and I couldn't get all the buttons to work proppely.
Some people say this is problem with Xorg not being able to handle 7 buttons.
But this is not a big problem, because the right side buttons are quite hard to reach/click - so I just don't use them.
The rest works fine...

What's so good about cherry keyboards? They look frighteningly generic. The real luxury keyboard is a saitek eclipse, even though they suck in windows.

A question, don't you need special drivers for using the 2000dpi? I even need this logitech applett to make use of my 800 dpi - MX500...

no need for drivers, as the copperhead stores the config in the internal memory. i just dual booted windows, installed driver, configured 5 profiles (hig to low sensitity) and saved them to the mouse and now i can use them under linux as well... (or any other computer) without the need for drivers (pure linux drivers will arrive at early 2006, at least a guy from razor said so...)

one can also change dpi while using the mouse via the side-buttons (nice feature, i work at 1000 and play at 2000 dpi, just 2 clicks to change)

and what's good about cherry keyboards, that's a good question: perhaps the gold-contacts or the soft-click-technic inside the keyboard. yeah, they are really generic, no specials, but it love them for writing, but this is purely personal choice i guess ;)
the copperhead instead, has nothing to do with personal choice, it's just the best mouse one can get for money (at least for now...)

greets

I made my one work a few days ago. I only see one "bug". I have a dual boot and when i change the OS i have to unplug it and plug it in again.
The on-the-fly DPI changer kicks ass :D

Oh, so it works well in linux? Rock on. I am still debating on going 100% linux. The absense of a wintendo has both pro's and con's... but what outweighs the other.

i did not change anything in xorg.conf for this mouse, but here's the part anyway:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0"
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

So it's a "It just works" mouse?

exactly. you don't even have to dualboot wintendo (nice word, btw) to install 5 profiles, as they are preinstalled. i just wanted to adjust them a bit...

I plan on doing that (booting doze at least once with the mouse, to get things going right, might even do it at school).

Razor also told me that linux support was intended.

any word on if those drivers were purely for the copperhead or for the diamondback, too?

btw: I noticed a more reliable "mouse powerup" between windows and linux when I put USB as a module.

I guess I'll be getting a razer mouse. My mX700 sucks.

sry, can't remember this, but it was somewhere on the razor homepage, you should be able to find it ("interview with a developer" was the name of it, or similar)
my guess would be for both, as they are very similar, it's just a better sensor in the copperhead. and i wouldn't call them "drivers" at all, it's more a gui for setting the mouse-parameters.

@Aynjell: you really should, it's absolutely worth the money

I'll be getting one of them. I just want to know which is easier to setup. Does every single button work on the copperhead? Even the ones you don't use? Even the ones you don't give a hoot about?

as said, i don't know because i don't need the left 2 buttons, but i read from a lot of ppl that they work... (but it seems a bit handwork to get them running, plugin and works is only for the default 5 buttons+wheel)

I got all 7 buttons, as well as the wheel, to work on Diamondback. They were working fine! They recently quit working when I installed WinXP to play games with my ut2k4 clan (damned ventrilo....), and started using the buttons in Linux as they were set up in Windows, which is really very irritating. I miss being able to use the two left buttons to go back/forwards in Firefox, but I'll chalk that up to my laziness to fixing things in Windows.

Okay, so all 7 buttons work, the other two buttons are automajically set to switch dpi?

yes, but this is changable in the win-gui too. but i don't think anybody uses them for something else, as they're quite hard to reach (or my small finger is just not flexible enough)
and as a side-note: the left 2 buttons are very good to reach with the thumb, it steadily lies directly on them, i should set them up sometime, could be useful....

damn, i should get paid from razor for my adverticing *lol

EDIT: one can change the profile with another button near the laser-sensor (downside of mouse), so the 2 right buttons could be used for something else without loosing ability to switch dpi. just to let you know "everything" :)

Is this mouse also advisable for comfortable office working. Or is another mouse better for this?

Thanks!
