I don't think upgrading to 3.4 is the main reason. Probably try emerging after a few hours, by when the devs might have added the missing declarations (for eg: Eet_Data_Descriptor_Class' undeclared (first use in this function) as given in the earlier post).
FYI, my entire system is compiled with gcc-3.4.3, and e17 never fails to compile.

Looks like it's a widget display issue (app in the foreground).

It freezes my system when I try to change the area it's reporting. Hopefully this problem will be solved in the future.

Having problems with latest cvs

Post by mistapony » Fri Dec 09, 2005 9:13 pm

I've been running e17 from cvs for some time, and it has been working great. I saw that some new themes have been released and the version from cvs that I was using would not support the new themes. So I decided to run the e17update.sh script to update to the newest cvs. I was able to build eet, edb, evas, ecore, embryo, imlib2, edje, e, epeg, epsilon and esmart. Everything else failed: emotion, eclair, ewl, engrave, e_utils, e_modules, etox, erss, entice, engage, evidence and entrance.
Here is the trace of ewl failing:

ewl_media.c: In function `ewl_media_module_set':
ewl_media.c:94: error: too many arguments to function `emotion_object_init'
ewl_media.c:100: error: too many arguments to function `emotion_object_init'
make[3]: *** [ewl_media.lo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ewl-9999/work/e17/libs/ewl/src/lib'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ewl-9999/work/e17/libs/ewl/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ewl-9999/work/e17/libs/ewl'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Has anyone ran into this problem, is the cvs builds broken? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i changed the CVS mirror from sf to thinkthux.net like i was advise on #e irc.freenode.org. and i must say that this mirror really works faster and better than sourcefroge one.

However i have a problem with updating engage.

this error has been bugging me for a while.. does anybody know what is wrong ?

New question

Post by mla » Sun Dec 11, 2005 9:35 pm

I have a tiny question.
As i'm using two monitors, how can i make E17 regard my two monitors/desktops as one single desktop? I find it a tad annoying changing the desktop (e.g. with the mousewheel) since only one half of the desktop switches. If i'm not mistaken, this was not the issue with E16.

Just as a heads up, emotion won't compile with the xine use flag enabled. It does build fine with gstreamer though.

Builds fine with the xine flag. You need a fairly recent xine-lib installed tho.

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] media-libs/emotion-9999 -doc +gstreamer +nls +xine 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.1-r1
PyroBor: IIRC there's no engage on that CVS server. I could be wrong tho. *edit* damn... I am wrong

I've always gotten engage from the thinktux.net server without a problem....

Engage (as far as I know) has a stable CVS build from get-e.org, which is where I always get mine.

well I have e17 now and still can't compile edje I just used a snapshot for edje and e and it worked but now emerge still wants to emerge edje when I want engage or e_utils and edje always gives the same error anyway is there some way to make emerge see that there is an edje already there so it doesn't ask for it.

thanks

*omit edje? how do I do that? when I do emerge engage or e_utils or e alway starts emerging edje first without asking or anything

Just omit the 'edje' from the emerge list.

Thanks for the heads up to my heads up...

Now that I think about it, it seems obvious that I should have tried that in the first place. Now I just have to look back through my emerge.log so that I can figure out what all gstreamer pulled in and get rid of it.

Try

Code: Select all

genlop -l --date 1 day ago
(or 2 days ago, 1 week ago, etc). You will probably need to emerge genlop.

I saw this a few weeks ago, but now I can't remember where. It was a gtk theme made to resemble the default E17 theme (or something like that). If you know of it can you post a link? Thanks. :)

@mistapony:
I get the same error as you do with ewl:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../.. -I../.. -I../.. -O2 -march=pentium3 -mtune=pentium3 -pipe -mmmx -Wall -MT ewl_media.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/ewl_media.Tpo -c ewl_media.c -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/ewl_media.o
ewl_media.c: In function `ewl_media_module_set':
ewl_media.c:94: error: too many arguments to function `emotion_object_init'
ewl_media.c:100: error: too many arguments to function `emotion_object_init'

make: *** [all] Fehler 2

My gcc version: 3.4.4-r1

Do you still get it? Anybody else with this prob?

EDIT:
Solved by upgrading to latest masked xine-lib (and gstreamer)

mla

I get the same behavior - I have two monitors using nviia twinview, and a third hooked up to a matrox g450 using Xinerama. The two monitors using twinview at as one (2560x1024), with the third at 1280x1024.

I can strech applications across all three, but the desktops are split. It could be an X issue - if I run xscreensaver, the twinview monitors will have one screensaver, the matrox screen will have another.

I'm also not able to move the mouse and have the dekstops follow the mouse like it does in E16

I hope that makes sense.

mistapony and my problem is solved!

The solution is to upgrade to xine-lib 1.1.1-r1 (also update gstreamer, if you use t)!

Beware: ffmpeg gets updated and failed to build on my machine with "mmx" as useflag! (Three different versions failed with mmx...)

Enjoy your E!

I have just updated my system (or I still am on it, but passed this phase) and had no problems with the mmx flag when compiling ffmpeg...

Hmm, which version do you use?
I am using 0.4.9_p20051120, synced my portage maybe three days ago....
But i have to recompile, the emotion_test and the other player don't give a picture. Xine itself shows the same error.

And because this is an e17 thread:
Did somebody compile the screenshot module? Mine is b0rking my e....

But all the other stuff has really improved since my update! They did some nice polishing on the window remember functions and all the config stuff. Although i don't get entangle and emblem showing up in the configuration panel. But the eap icon editor tool doesn't segfault every 5 seconds anymore!

I used the same: ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20051120

I am still compiling all remaining packages.. i'm almost there!
I'm kinda curious to see the changes, which from the CVS files I can see that are many.
I haven't update it for quite a long time now.. time has not been on my side

Ok, found a problem on my last package!

Any idea on how to solve this?

Code: Select all

*** [Gentoo] sanity check failed! ***
*** libtool.m4 and ltmain.sh have a version mismatch! ***
*** (libtool.m4 = 1.5.20, ltmain.sh = 1.5.18) ***

Please run:

  libtoolize --copy --force

if appropriate, please contact the maintainer of this
package (or your distribution) for help.
