Remove Commercials

  • Quote

Post by palmer » Sun Dec 11, 2005 11:51 pm

I am planning to use freevo to record TV
If I usderstand right, this will leave me with mpeg files for all the TV shows I have recorded

Is the an app that will let me remove the commercials from the show (automatically or by hand)?

Take a look at avidemux, it will let you hand edit the video. As fasr as I know, there are no apps that will automatically strip commercials...

You may want to look at MythTV over FreeVo. AFAIK, it is a more mature application and it has a built in editor that you can use to flag and delete commrcials.

So far, avidemux has been slow and killed the AV sync of my files
But that's with AVI/XVID/MP3, not mpeg2

A seperate app from the PVR would be ideal (TV card will be in one computer that is slow, will be watching/editing on another that is faster)

Avidemux will only let me set a start point and an end point, but not many cut outs (I think)

This would take a very long time to edit video (have to make many small files, then join them)

Wrong,
you can set the start/end point around the section you want to remove
and do edit->cut to remove it
And then repeat ad nauseam

I you use MythTV you can seperate all the tasks onto different machines. You can run "backends" on both machines, have the one on the machine with the card record. Tell the one on the fast machine to transocde, and run a "frontend" on the fast machine. I highly recommend it.
