miht as well forget conrad or the lucky scripts i dont think they have a purpose. the conrar live cd dosent work the scripts rc2 rc3 non work i cant look into the problem anymore becuase you add all of this ADVANCED?? error checking that crashed after a error without telling you what it was ? sounds like prople should use the stage 1/3 method because conrad practally stole it from their. as of now i resign any work i did and you can remove me from the developers/testers section until i can see some improvments. you havent replyed to any posts and no one seems to have any interest anymore.

Will do...

This was an unnecessary post I am frowning upon it - Please do not use this thread to flame the project, or to reccomend another project in place of... Private Message me to do that

I replied no posts because I visited my dad for the weekend, terribly sorry... I try my best to be supportive, but I am human and can not be here every day, I try to the best of my ability to :(

And you expect a flawless install on Release Canidate "Lucky" Scripts? I am sorry it does not work like that, the bug was found (missing 1 word 'done') and I advised peopel not to use it until the next release (1.0)

If people don't want to use CONRAD no one is forcing them to,
-----
Use whatever you feel, this is an open-source community and gentoo is all about choice.

Good luck with whatever you go on to and whatever your system becomes :)

We work very hard, lately/particulary on the Lucky Scripts (a lot of scripting...)
The error was a missing line 'done' as I said before...It panicked because it didnt see done after the end of the case 'esac' which is expected, if that line is missing.

So I hope this clarifies your problem, very simple - That script was announced not functional, while the other 2 are still very capable.

My conrad system is running amazing, thanks for all of the good work and research. I'm considering moving on up to the new glibc and gcc 4.1.0beta. Other than using -ffriend-injection, what other tips do you guys have for me?

great to hear, it is blank - I'm i links don't plan to further edit release canidates, there are no known issues except in the unstable, which it states.

And great to hear your system is running great - But am I the one to tell?

No need to post in this thread, about 'Lucky', post in the 'Lucky' RC3 thread. I always wish the best to everyone who is using gentoo, and good to see your system is running perfectly - For me, I'm running the final test of Lucky, before 1.0 is released, I had a system running perfectly, but am testing the particular 'Conrad' script to confirm there are no problems in the new modular xorg option, etc. And my systems all run great with GCC 4.0.2-r1,glibc-2.3.90,and binutils 2.16.90* :)

The latest
Very unfortunelately my root/reiser4 partition (hda2) is corrupt and wont load, mount, or anything.

My resolution,
Make Lucky-1.0, run it, install with reiserfs instead of reiser4 (I dont want to risk anything again like that) - And then once done, get into my box and work on LiveCD 0.2.5 w/ 2.6.15_rc5 kernel (custom patches added by me; CK, reiser4, gentoo-sources patches) and then upload and release Lucky-1.0

Actually, I didnt use reiser4... When I had gentoo installed and KDE 3.5 running with xorg 7.0 modular (From Lucky-RC1 Test)

Then when I went to the final test of RC3, I decided I have the livecd for the purpose of reiser4 I might as well use it.
I'm sure it was something simple that messed up my partition, but to be safe, I went with reiserfs this time.

I tried the install method several times only to have it fail when building the toolset. I hadn't realized that I was being blocked from someone's server so vital patches weren't being downloaded, which caused glibc not to compile. So when I realized that, I eventually gave this a shot again, and I successfully installed Gentoo for the first time a few days ago.

I'm having a few small issues not entirely Conrad related, but perhaps someone might be kind enough to help me with regardless.

In my kernel, I see a module for my specific onboard ALI sound card. I've tried building it directly into the kernel, and as a module. But in both cases, it doesn't seem to get detected. alsaconf can't detect a card it says. I'm at work, but if I were at home, I'd post the specific card.

Also, I editted /etc/rc.conf and made gdm the default. I've successfully emerged gdm. I added xdm to the default runlevel.

But when I boot the PC I boot directly to the terminal. If I log in as root, and them type gdm, gdm launches. But shouldn't it boot directly to gdm?

Lastly, I have a DLink GWL-650 wireless card. I tried various drivers and methods that claimed to work (including ndiswrapper and the windows drivers) but none of them did, until I came across mad-wifi. Those drivers work for the most part. If I go to the terminal and type in various commands to set up the ESSID, WEP KEY, etc, I can get the card to work. But I edit /etc/conf.d/net to save said changes, and it isn't working.

Thanks!
Nihilism makes me smile.

cheater1034:

I hope you realize you are about to break many people's systems by letting them use this compiler.
There are MANY packages that will not (properly / at all) compile with gcc-4.1, no matter
what foo-bar you have put into patching them.... And people not being able to fix / patch the other packages will hate you forever
for having wasted their time....

By maintaining an install-method, you also have a certain responsibility, not for your own system, but for those of
other people who might not realise what is "under the hood" :S

no Xorg7 but gcc 4.1.0? running xorg modular now for three weeks no crashes 3D on this old rage 128 pro working as good as one could expect. i just emerged gcc 3.4.5 not much documentation about it but so far working perfectly stable.

First question, SND CARD DRIVERS = Make sure sound card support, alsa support, and your specific driver are all modules, I had this problem myself, caused me some hassles awhile back, and make sure OSS is not installed.

Second question, GDM = Make sure in rc.conf it reads, DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm" and make sure xdm is in the 'default' runlevel.

For wireless network I am unsure, I never ran one  But I can point you in this direction - it may help you, http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Wireless_C ... nd_Startup
------
Questions regarding the decision on GCC-4.1
I an only infer that it is stable with my make.conf when I build the following packages with it... (system, kde (3.5.0), firefox-1.5, thunderbird 1.0.7, xmms, mplayer, opera/not compiled, xchat, apollon, gftp, baghira <theme>, gaim ,gtk-engines-qt and switch2, xorg 6.9 - upgraded to 7.0, k3b, openoffice 2.0)

I built more than that if you count all of KDE's dependencies, and Xorg 7.0 fonts, drivers, etc. - I consider it to be quite stable, and very fast compared to any other install I've ran (I emerge new packages usually every day) and I update the world every day to assure stability and no GCC-4.X package failures on what I build with it, CONRAD is only reccomended by me for 686* class cpu's, because that is what it is tested on and most people have a i686 cpu now.

So things I do arent because they're newer or more hip, I include fixes for what is known not to build from the method, (like the cairo fix) - GNOME 2.12.1 is known to build successfully, etc.

Seren:
The Reason I dont use the GCC 3.4.5, or 3.4.4 is because, its not unique. Conrad is more a hardcore rough aggressive modern system|If I used GCC 3.4.5 and a ricer make.conf that is taking away the point of CONRAD, which is, to make the most up to date system and most modern packages, things like nxsty's glibc-2.3.90 are optional 2.3.6 works fine, and gcc 4.1 and binutils snapshot are optional, you can use 2.16.1 (binutils) and gcc 4.0.2-r1 still, but explained is that (Lucky doesnt use glibc-2.3.90*, until the end it prompts (Yes/No) if you'd like to upgrade.

and Xorg 7.0 Modular will be added soon, I was planning on linking to the gentoo-wiki page on HOWTO_Modular_Xorg as it explains it better - but the reason for NO MODULAR yet, is it fails to build from scratch for some reason (openmotif) will not build under it, and will cause havoc, I was thinking of trying to bypass by installing Xorg 6.8 then emerging openmotif, then unmerging old xorg and setting up for a modular build - I dont know, maybe it would work better :)

hmm, I dont think this is the thread your looking for ;) but , did you follow the conrad guide? because I had no problem building 7.0_RC3 on 4.0.2-r1, or 4.1

i think emerging xorg 6.8.2 then removing it then going modular will be a good reason for revdev-rebuild. lots of libraries would be broke i would imagine

i think emerging xorg 6.8.2 then removing it then going modular will be a good reason for revdev-rebuild. lots of libraries would be broke i would imagine
Not necessarily, the wiki on, http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Modular_Xorg - explains installing the modular build of Xorg and removing the old Xorg (emerge -C xorg-x11, rm /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL*, etc) and thats how most people need to upgrade to Xorg 7.0 ;) I think I'll have a shot at it once kde is done building ;)
