Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

how do I play TMD Movies in linux ???

I downloaded some movies with Kazaa on a windows machine (still havent figured t out how to make it work on linux) but I'd like to play them in Linux. I got Xine installed (running everything on ~x86) but they just dont wanna play.
any idea's??

Thanks for your comments on Xine and Mplayer. To me, it doesnt matter which one I am using. No prefference for either. I have all the codecs and stuff installed, including dvd support and the like. The website of TMD is just a portal for their IRC channels, so I guess I have to roam around there. I just thought that I was NOT the only one on Gentoo who's downloading movies.
(call it warez or not, but if someone has a DVD collection of 800+ then I consider it more as watching a trial version of such a movie.)

It depends on your use flags if a specific codec is going to be installed or not.

For me xine plays everything.
I find mplayer a bad player because sound and video is always out of sync for me and tells that my system is too slow.
When I play a media with xine it just plays perfect, so POO to mplayer.

xine is good, but you just misconfigured mplayer, try reading. Mplayer can perform as well or better than xine or any linux movie player, there is no dispute about that. But mplayer is not for newbies. So if you have problems with mplayer, then stick to xine. However if you want some tips for mplayer read this :
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=47041

If you want to fix your mplayer problems, then put in more details : ie, sound card/graphic card/kernel version/drivers etc.., then you will see that they both perform equally on all systems.

PS : xine/mplayer share lot of code, so saying one is bad is just ignorance.

mplayer is not for newbies? Since when was gentoo for newbies? And why is this guy gonna be so dumb that he can't figure out to use mplayer he types:

mplayer <name of movie>

or simply:

gmplayer

and then he gets a gui. Why is this not newbie friendly? Especially in Gentoo Land? Nobody has yet to answer this guy's question about how to play a TMD file in Linux.

http://www.tmdmoviez.com/

That is a link to the people who make the codec. Quite frankly, I can't find much about the codec or about if you can even play it in linux. My guess is ask either at mplayerhq.hu or xine.sf.net.

And to everyone else, let's please try to stay on topic. I appreciate people trying hard to answer this guys question, but starting the never ending war between xine and mplayer is quite ridiculous, just as saying either one is not newbie friendly.

Having sucessfully played some TMD video in linux, I believe I have the clue Mitchybums has been looking for.

The video is in svcd format. PM me if you need more help. After I figured out that the files were svcd it was a simple matter of telling Mplayer what it was, and it played fine.

I have no kind words for the video quality, but as for playing the file, it worked fine.
(X) Yes! I am a brain damaged lemur on crack, and would like to buy your software package for $499.95
