for some reason this ebuild is not showing up in the emerge.

I download the tarball,
extraced it to /usr/local/portage/xorg-x11
my make.conf has PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" (i have used overlay before)
added the appropriate lines in /etc/portage/package.keywords and package.unmask
and did: ebuild xorg-x11-6.9_pre20051122.ebuild digest

then when I do:

emerge xorg-x11 -p

I get an older version of xorg, xorg-x11-6.8.99.15-r4.

what did i do wrong?

It should be in /usr/local/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11 and not /usr/local/portage/xorg-x11, that's the problem!

I have mouse problems with this build. It won't read my .Xmodmap file (and no, it does not configure it even close to properly), and even if I do manually perform an xmodmap, my back/forward buttons still don't work properly. For now, reverting to an older build.

This is with a Logitech MX518, btw.

There where some changes to the button handling code. Check the first post. I'm not sure how to fix it though. Perhaps you should ask the xorg mailinglist?

Disabling the insecure-drivers USE will probably get you past that error. I'm not sure why sunffb is built on x86 at all since it seems sparc specific but I'll look into that.

A new overlay is online! I removed the ffb driver that fails to build and added the r300 driver instead to DevelDRIDrivers. So it should build now with the insecure-drivers USE. Also I took a new snapshot. I haven't fixed the exta stuff yet.

Hi,

Just tested the ebuild with ati-drivers (which worked with 6.8.2), here I get "unresolved symbols" in fglrx_drv.so

Also eselect does not seem to work propperly, since no symlinks are created/overwritten with it

after eselect opengl set ati (while before symlinks were pointing to xorg-x11) i still get

Code: Select all

# ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.*
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root  36 lis 24 11:36 /usr/lib/libGL.a -> /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.a
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 765 lis 22 22:58 /usr/lib/libGL.la
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root  12 lis 22 23:12 /usr/lib/libGL.so -> libGL.so.1.2
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root  12 lis 22 23:12 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root  41 lis 24 11:36 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 -> /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1.2
and

Code: Select all

# ls -l /usr/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.*
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 45 lis 24 11:43 /usr/lib64/modules/extensions/libglx.so -> /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/extensions/libglx.so
Of course I have in /usr/lib/opengl:

Code: Select all

# ls -l /usr/lib/opengl/
razem 0
drwxr-xr-x  3 root root 47 lis 23 11:49 ati
drwxr-xr-x  3 root root 20 mar 18  2005 global
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 16 mar 24  2005 opengl -> /usr/lib//opengl
drwxr-xr-x  5 root root 47 lis 22 22:58 xorg-x11
When no symlinks exist none are created.

Hi,

One more information. I (just) managed to build cvs mesa (outside of xorg tree) to get r300_dri.so.
Well, the effect is a little better, since xorg after startx does not hang immediately (altough the hang, when occurs, is harder now since I cannot poweroff computer through acpi now, like I user to).
I got console (in twm or whatever is the default manager called). When typed in the console glxinfo I got information, that direct rendering is enabled. Encouraged that way I wanted to get more information typing LIBGL_DEBUG="verbose" glxinfo, unfortunately it hung than. I also tried (after reboot) to start kdm. Well it hung as well, althoug visibly later than before (it managed to display labels for input boxes and buttons). I looked into Xorg.0.log, but there was nothing unusual (just one warning about a "highly experimental" rendering for this radeon).

I've just emerged the 20051122 xorg-x11 :)
Works fine here with latest(portage) nvidia binary drivers on GF 3 Ti/550
Faster than 20051111 snapshot though glxgears says only 2401 FPS (2702 on 20051111) :roll: 8O :?:

Nice work!

Together with transset-df and xbindkeys, as described perfectly on the Gentoo Wiki, this is really great (and even usefull) eye candy.

So, if you happen to own one of the supported cards (older radeon, i128 or sis), give it a spin :!:
I confirm that with my radeon 9200 trasparency are smooooth.
I've not played very much because I don't find them useful, but I can state that Gentoo Wiki is wrong when it says that trasparency break 3d acceleration (I think it applies to closed ati drivers)
With xorg-x11-6.9_pre20051115 I was able to have trasparency and direct rendering.
glxgears score was unaffected by trasparency, and also cube /the game seemed unaffected.

(Sorry if I repeated something obvious)

well unfortunally nvidia's closed sources drivers crash xorg with 3d opengl apps running with a composite manager. Didn't test the leaked 8168.. but from a post by a nvidia developer they'll release a full composite supported driver (xv and opengl apps runnning on top of a composite manager) early next year..
Never argue with an idiot. They will only pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I've heard in another forum that the nvidia leaked drivers 8168 works with opengl +composite, but they have problems with xv and overalay.

This snapshot breaks compiling mozilla-firefox 1.5 rc & thunderbird 1.5 rc. They're complaining about missing "xft"/"xproto".

Everything built with the xorg ebuilds in portage should be built with this since I'm using the same host.def file. Perhaps it's a bug in the pkgconfig files.

Got a missing symbol with a matrox G400 and no DRI

Code: Select all

(II) Module ddc: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
	compiled for 6.8.99.902, module version = 1.0.0
	ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
(II) LoadModule: "GLcore"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so
dlopen: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so: undefined symbol: __glXLastContext
(EE) Failed to load /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so
(II) UnloadModule: "GLcore"
(EE) Failed to load module "GLcore" (loader failed, 7)
DRI does work with xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6 with composite and render enabled.

Code: Select all

amd64_agp              10504  1
ali_agp                 6016  0
agpgart                30160  3 drm,amd64_agp,ali_agp
Xorg (either 6.8.2-r6 or 6.8.99.902) lock up with an ATi 8500le 32mb with render and composite turned on in both my Asrock 939-dual-SataII 4400X2 or a shuttle AN-35n ultra 2400XP and 2.6.14-gentoo-r2 or r3. Neither lockup with the G400 or an ATi 9250. It's a puzzle. BTW, these are both up to date ~x86 32bit installs.

I fixed this by editing and deleting xproto dependency in this file: /usr/lib/pkgconfig/xft.pc

Not sure if this is the correct way to fix this problem but it worked for me :)

Well, I was able to fix my mouse issues with Xmodmap. Had to change it from:

Code: Select all

pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5
To:

Code: Select all

pointer = 1 2 3 10 11 4 5 6 7 8 9
And everything works now :)

Missing xproto.pc

  • Quote

Post by martin.k » Sat Dec 03, 2005 3:50 pm

Snapshot breaks compilation of gnome control-center due to missing xproto.pc required by Xft

Code: Select all

configure:27813: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "gnome-vfs-2.0 >= 2.0.0    xft >= 2.1.2    gtk+-2.0 >= 2.6.0    libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.2.0"
Package xproto was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xproto.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'xproto', required by 'Xft', not found
Edit: fixed as said above - removing xproto from xft.pc - don't know if it helps, alas...

Edit: Compiling still broken ...

Edit: The second time it did help. Think it's due to ccache cache trash :)
