Switch to Gnome

I wanna switch from kde to gnome.

I installed kde-meta, but it failed at some point therefore i installed some of the kde-games packages manually. I've been using them for 2 months now, but i want to remove all of the kde and qt components and install gnome 2.12. What should be my road map, will i have to remove or reemerge some other packages, and surely how safe it is?

I certainly need some guidance. Thanks in advance.

I think that switching should be quite safe. You should start off with specifying -qt -kde in your USE flags (/etc/make.conf). Then once you have emerged GNOME, you can search for packages that are installed for KDE, and remove those (using gentoolkit's equery). You could, after that is done, check any remaining stray packages using 'emerge --depclean --pretend world', but take care in removing packages from that list so as not to break your setup. Once you have all of those removed, you should run a 'emerge --newuse --ask world' to build any packages with the new set of use flags that you set, and finally run a 'revdep-rebuild' to rebuild any packages which may have been built against libraries that are no longer present.

Hope that helps.

I would think to remove kde first. Seems u don t think it is better? (I m kinda short of space:()

And is there no more general means, such as "emerge unmerge kde-meta"?

Thnx anyway, great help...

It's not that simple - kde-meta only adds a ton of dependencies, and a package manager can only make assumptions based on the dependency hierarchy and your world file. Use depclean to see what Portage suggests.
