It is all in the patch listing in the announcement....

ipt_l7 is in it, so is mppc-mppe and a few others.... just read it...

tiger 683, can you think about adding the pentium-m undervolt patch to this patchset (or maybe to the acid-sources)? this patch works with nitro2.

It's used in this article http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Undervolt_a_Pentium_M_CPU

Well, the Fedora thing I had was due to a little tiny setting I oversaw: Optimise for size (I think I used a tree where I tested that patch) so disabling such setting got me past the enabling swap screen. I've got some RPMs built and will start testing them and spreading some Nitro love!! :D

Unfortunately I have a little problem with this nitro version. If I edit a config file in vim and then save the file and exit vim (:wq) it lasts several minutes until it finished writing the file to disk. That can't be normal.

Haven't upgraded my kernel since 2.6.12-rc5, and I completely forget how to move my existing config over to the new one. I know its simple, but I'm having a complete brain fart.

Copy old config into the new directory and run a 'make oldconfig' before running make.

Or if you had the nonint_oldconfig patch applied, you could run make nonint_oldconfig and it won't ask about any new unconfigured stuff found in the new kernel tree. Remember that you have to copy the .config file ;)

As i use reiser4 now also, i can only say this does not happen to me ( and obviously i am using this kernel too ;) )
Go look if it also happens with nano (which imho is a better/friendlier editor anyways)

Hehe, that's true. I can't live without vim anymore. It's too useful once you know how to use it. *G*

The problem with the long timespan for saving (the hdd works like while the locate database being updated (but this isn't the cas)) is only with 2.6.14 version. If I boot 2.6.12 it's gone. So I'll stay with this great release which has been in use since July for now. "Never touch a running system" :D

Now this is odd, I'm using this kernel (on my Gentoo box) without toruble... I too use VIM quite too often (sometimes I forget I've got nano  ) and deffinitely this problem does not show. I've got a mix (in this system) of Ext3 and Reiser4 partitions and in none of them this happens.

Could that be a problem on how VIM is built (what options you used, etc) and an interaction with the rest of the system? A long-shot, I know, since that includes a LOT of ground to cover, but could be worth trying to build it with more standard options...

i'm having problems with S3 suspend to mem:

Code: Select all

Suspending device 0000:01:00.0
NVRM: ACPI: unsupported event: 2
Could not suspend device 0000:01:00.0: error -1
(its nvidia)

it worked with 2.6.13-gvivid

I have this problem too! And I am using reiser4 1.0.5. I just rebuilt my entire Gentoo system using the Stage 1/3 method (search for it on the forums) and whenever I try to save I also have extremely long save times. My hard disk goes crazy and i can't use the computer for about 20 - 30 seconds; and it is only made worse by the fact that I have a slower laptop drive.

The program with the worst startup times is gedit. If you try to open a file like /etc/X11/xorg.conf it will freeze up my system for about 30 seconds before anything becomes responsive, then when I save I also have to wait a long time. It even happens the second or third time I have to open the file, even though the file should be cached already (I have 1.25GB of RAM on the afformentioned laptop).

For me the last stable nitro 2.6.12 rc5 worked fine in this regard, but it seems that an update to reiser4 and the accompaning update to the kernel to support reiser4 1.0.5 has introduced this problem to me.

I am going to try and recompile gedit using different W flags in the make.conf. Right now I am using --sort-common and some other linking optimizations that have made most of my programs way faster to start, but maybe something new has broken their functionality? My compiler optimizations are fairly tame, just -O2 -march and pipe.

One question. If I have an older version of reiser4, can I update to this new kernel? Or do I have to update the reiser4? Because last time I tried updating my reiser4 partition blew up and I had to rebuild the entire system.

gvivid is mm based PLUS it doesn't contain softwaresuspend2, which most probably will be the reason...
As they say, cant have everything...besides swsusp2 is way more useful (even with swapwriter)

This runs great without any problems. Thanks Tiger. I doubt this is directly nitro related but does anyone know what could be causing this strange error?

I get the following from dmesg when my internet locks up randomly and I try to renew the dhcp but it doesn't work.

Code: Select all

0000:01:08.0: tulip_stop_rxtx() failed
Obstacles do not exist to be surrendered to, but only to be broken.
