Funny thing is, sometimes this ackage builds not, sometimes others break. Now I have a bit time to bite through, lets see...
This is a problem with eselect-opengl. I've reported the details of the problem at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109922

I worked around this by hacking up /usr/share/eselect/modules/opengl.eselect to not re-symlink the headers if the source is from lib32.

Indeed. Temporarily unmerging emul-linux-x86-xlibs before emerge xorg-server helps also ;)

Try (re)merging media-libs/mesa

You should emerge something providing these headerfiles first. Something like nvidia.glx or generig mesa.
What are you messing with wxgtk in this Thread anyway

Hi,

I've unemerged 6.8.99.15 and emerged the new modular xorg-server rc1 on my sp13000 with cn400. X starts, but I've a problem: X can't find the module 'dri' anymore. I saved an old Xorg.0.log and know that this previously worked, it has loaded '/usr/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.so'. This file is missing now, I made a global search to see if it was created somewhere else but it is completely gone. I haven't changed the kernel config since I get 6.8.99.15 working. lsmod gives:

Code: Select all

Module Size Used by
via 46112 0
drm 67544 1 via
via_agp 7712 1
agpgart 29576 2 drm,via_agp
I emerged also x11-drm to see if that helps.
I emerged xf86-video-via, I emerged also mesa.
Under /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri is a file 'unichrome_dri.so'.
Which module is responsible for creating 'libdri.so' that I can reemerge this module again?

thanks

Ehm, do you have the modulepath removed from you x config ? module path has changed ;)

xorg-server package itself should create libdri.so

I've no modulepath defined in my xorg.conf, could you please give me the exact entry? But does the creation of libdri.so really depends on lines in this config files? I thought till now, it is the user's responsibility to fill it after a complete installation of xorg.

thanks

From http://dev.gentoo.org/~spyderous/xorg-x ... _howto.txt
* Make sure your xorg.conf doesn't list ModulePath, because this directory
changed from /usr/lib/modules to /usr/lib/xorg/modules.
>> Thats in section "Files"

also make sure useflag dri is set for xorg-server

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-server-0.99.2-r1 +dri +ipv6 -minimal -xprint 0 kB

You're right, 'dri' was not set as use flag, i thought I've read the howto carefully. I'll try again now.

You are missing or have incorrectly installed glproto. Try to emerge it again and try mesa again.

Did you try to switch to xorg-x11 opengl before emerge? I had similar probs whith NVIDIA opengl interface during compile.

Hi, I've emerged xorg-xserver and it is kindof working, but I am getting the following in Xorg.0.log

Code: Select all

dlopen: /usr/local/xorg/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so: undefined symbol: __glXLastContext
I have reemerged xorg-xserver but nothing, and my Xorg is slooooowww....

Any ideas?

Modules fglrx & synaptics

Post by schlesi » Tue Nov 01, 2005 1:59 pm

Hi all,

I've migrated from monolithic xorg to the modularized, following this how-to http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Modular_Xorg, but I've a problem:
I'm using the ATI fglrx driver . This module can't be loaded ("Warning, could not open module fglrx").

I've reinstalled the ati-drivers (with --nodeps), but that didn't help.

How can I use the fglrx drivers with xorg-modular?

My second problem:
After installing xorg-server my german keyboard layout is lost, though it is correct set in KDE. The Xorg logfile says:

Code: Select all

(EE) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap
A

Code: Select all

xkbcomp -w 3 -xkm -m de /etc/X11/xkb/keymap/xfree86 :0.0
in a terminal window does the switch to german keyboard layout.

i dont think fglrx would work, you have to use the xf86-video-ati
#!/usr/bin/amorpheus

The latest ati-drivers (8.18.8) does work with modularized Xorg, but the ebuild is not designed for use with modularized Xorg and needs to be hacked. I'll try to post my hacked up ebuild when I get the chance

I do get opengl acceleration working fine, but haven't tested much else

Code: Select all

dlopen: /usr/local/xorg/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so: undefined symbol: __glXLastContext
I solved the problem, and it seems like the glx module MUST appear before GLcore module in xorg.conf.

Going forward, but it seems slow to me.... I'm using composite and exa acceleration on a radeon with radeon xorg drivers.

Ok, a xorg-x11-7 meta ebuild is in portage. Installed it, cleaned a couple of x11-libs out of my world file, did depclean, revdep-rebuild -p. Now everyone and his brother is moaning about libXrandr.so.2 missing, so there's an implicit dependency here, obviously. How should this be dealt with? Just another dependency for xorg-x11-7, or is a xrandr USE flag in order, or even a virtual/xrandr class? What does xrandr actually do? Can someone more into X than me give advice here so I can file a proper bug?

Nebvin,

are you sure, that ati-drivers-8.18.8 works well with xorg-server and kernel 2.6.14?

I got this error on building:

Code: Select all

make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/var/tmp/portage/ati-drivers-8.18.8/work/co
mmon/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/libfglrx_ip.a.GCC3', needed by `/var/tmp/portag
e/ati-drivers-8.18.8/work/common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/fglrx.o'. Stop.
and in addition this warning:

Code: Select all

WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko needs unknown symbol verify_area

I just emerged xorg-server today, and I'm also getting the mouse button switch (2 and 3). It's annoying to have to press the middle mouse button to have a menu pop up in fluxbox. I hope they fix this soon. xmodmap didn't help here either.

Look in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask it has the complete list related to xorg-server.
