I don't know how this works in GNOME but for KDE you can define Shortcut keys
for each application (in Menu-Editor)... Try to find a similar thing (Menu-Editor) in
Gnome and define shortcuts for the application you want!
There's no UI for it (that I know of), but you can set up custom keybindings using gconf-editor. Go to /apps/metacity/global_keybindings and set up a keybinding and a command in /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands.
