Help!!! NTFS Partition gone :< [Solved]

Still need help with Gentoo, and your question doesn't fit in the above forums? Here is your last bastion of hope.

Help!!! NTFS Partition gone :< [Solved]

i had 1 big ntfs partition ,i make it smaller with pqmagic then installed gentoo
install grub and all worked fine.
then i got new harddrive and i deleted the linux partitions and install gentoo
on the new hardrive.
then i wanted to install xp on the first harddrive but i had grub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grubgrub grub grub grub
on boot so i did dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
and next thing there is no partitions :<.

i lost all my ntfs partition with all my file :< so i need help to restore it.

That command erased the MBR completely, including the partition table.

Not surprising, you told it to do exactly that.

You have three options, in the order of confidence in restoring things properly:
  1. If you happen to have a backup of the MBR lying around, restore it via dd if=/path/to/mbt/backup/file of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
  2. If you happen to have written down somewhere the layout of your primary partition table, you can use fdisk to manually restore the table (I'll walk you through it)
  3. You can try some automatic recovery software. The only one I found so far that's reliable enough, especially for big partitions, is OnTrack's EasyRecovery Pro (sorry, it's commercial, Windows only, and costs a pretty penny. Saved my behind a few times though.)
