using MD as regular disk drive

Post by Dikkiedik » Sat Oct 15, 2005 4:39 pm

Hi,

I was wondering,

I want to use my sony net md to store regular files on my md's. Is there anyone here with knowledge on how to do so?
Like, create a fs on the disk, etc.

I've googled a bit but can't find anything useful.

Might be handy though, I've got a lot of md's but currently not using it for music and was thinking might use if for files instead.

the reason i didnt buy a sony net md was cos the where no software to support it in linux. i doubt you will ever be able to use your md as an external drive, sorry. maybe in windows, but im not sure.

I see.. well it would be cool though. I'm using both windows and linux. I'm going to search a bit for some windows support now..

Had another google for linux support, didn't give me anything usefull so may be your just right about that. Hope not though.

Just found out, that if you scroll down a bit using ctrl-f 'files' a couple of times, sony sais it's possible to use net md as an external drive, but not exactly 'how'.. now, when I plug my MD in using USB, windows tells me I plugged it in, but doesn't take any action mounting it as an external drive..

Hit the jackpot:

Seems I was a little bit pre-emptive on regular NET MD's capability to be used as an external drive.

Sony is brining something out in japan called the PIT-MD, to using Hi-MD ánd regular MD's as a
new kind of storage. Pretty cool. I'm still wondering though if it's possible to use the NET MD as
such a device to, through some tweaking, hacking.. etc. :)
