Java-config cannot set VM

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Java-config cannot set VM

Post by Midnight Dream » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:11 pm

Ok, here is the deal. No matter what I do, I cannot get a VM set with java-config. I had blackdown, but the lag I was experiencing was horrible, so I unmerged and emerged sun-jdk (after downloading and putting it in the correct location for portage). Did the java-config --set-system-vm, env-update && source /etc/profile, and it showed to be set. Ok, closed the terminal and went to open Azureus. Nothing. Odd, so I went to my normal user in a terminal and did java-config -L. Shows the sun-jdk vm, but its not set, despite having set it just a few minutes prior.

Any help?

Can you try running azuerus from the command line and seeing if it gives you any output there?

Not it. I already emerged java-config.

I can try to run azureus from the CLI but it wont run, giving a thing of java is an unknown command, despite having just set the vm a few minutes prior.

So it doesn't even find javac or something? No good...

Well, this may be a bit trivial but I would do the following first:
Login as the user who wants to use Java
a. did you remember to "source ~/.gentoo/java-env" in ~/.bashrc (or do it manually)
b. run "set" in a command line. Are JAVA_HOME=.., JDK_HOME=.. looking right? (should be /opt/sun-jdk-1.something), JAVAC=/opt/sun-jdk-1.something/bin/javac
c. take a look at the JAVA_HOME directory and for instance javac. Are the permissions looking right?
