2.6.14-rc3-nitro1 "Braineating Monsterpenguin"

READ THIS FIRST: GENERAL
Nitro-sources is a patchset for the Linux kernel designed to improve desktop
performance and experience. Please note that nitro-sources *can* be unstable
and that neither me or the other nitro-sources developers are responsible
for breaking up your machine. ALWAYS keep a second, stable kernel image ready
in your boot manager! If something is broken while you run this release,
please retry with a clean vanilla kernel. Never bug the gentoo devs while
running this kernel, bug us instead in this thread ... although we can not
guarantee to fix your problems all the time.

This release is considered unstable until it has proven the contrary for more people than just me 8)
Special caution using reiser4, as problems with newer versions are known to occur in -mm kernels

BASE
You have to apply this patch set to a clean 2.6.14-rc3 Linux kernel taken from
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ ... c3.tar.bz2

Can't compile "eagle-usb" module for this kernel. It complains about URB_ASYNC_UNLINK being undeclared. I found this info:

More interesting would be this post on lkml from gregkh:

And I already pointed out that this patch was wrong, and would cause
build errors...

thanks,

greg k-h
So, remove the two lines in there, then it should all be fine (i hope),
once again i couldnt stop myself from including the git snapshot......gah

And, say w00t, PPC support baby !!!!!!

cheers,

Hmmm...I can't startx anymore now that I'm using this kernel. My monitor goes blank and I get this error from my monitor: "Signal Frequency is out of range
FH-> 106.4 khz
FV-> 85.2 Hz
Please change signal timing"

Then I have to reboot.
Wierd...

Yeah, but as I said, I need eagle-usb to be fixed, I mentioned ST 5481 USB driver only for reference (I don't use it), as it's what I found on google.

geforce 4 ti 4200, this wasn't a problem until I started running this kernel, so I'm not sure it's a hardware problem.

not hardware problem, but hardware support problem.... ;)

are you using the newest nvidia drivers?
if yes, do not use agp driver shipped with nvidia module, use the one from kernel.
couldn't think of anything else....

Anyone tried this kernel on Reiser4? How's it working?

Well, you are right, it definately should work. But it doesn't. First of all vmmon and vmnet modules didn't compile at all. Then of course I applied vmware-any-any-update94 update and modules compiled cleanly, and even loaded. But now when vmware starts, system just hangs. Something is really weird about vmware modules. I'm not quite sure, but I think we (me?) should just wait till next vmware release or something.
