two days ago I've installed the gentoo 2005.1 on my new notebook (Manifacturer is Gericom, Intel CentrinoM 1,7 GHz, 1Gb ram, nvidia GeForce Go6600), The problem is that I cannot switch it off. When I ask to kde to shutdown (but doing also a #>poweroff or #>halt -p from command line) it goes into the right runlevel, does everything is expected to do (all the list of processes which are shut down is fine, all "ok") and then it Says
Power down
System halted
But nothing happens anymore
I thought that it was something related to the power management: I looked in the previous posts in this forum, I didn't find the exact problem but I got this feeling, that ACPI was related to that.
I recompiled the kernel with genkernel activating the modules specified in the "Power management guide" of gentoo, but when I try to do
#> /etc/init.d/acpid start
* ACPI support has not been compiled into the kernel
Strange because I did.
A problem which is probably related is that in grub I cannot specify simoultaneously the options "acpi=on" and "dopcmcia". In that case the system hangs up at the boot loading something connected to the pcmcia, saying
cardmgr [9689]: watching 1 socket
And again I have use my finger.... even without saying anything about acpi in grub.conf I get the same result, I must disable acpi explicetly.
So, it seems that without acpi I cannot shutdown and with I cannot start. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the causes of the problem, please, tell me something more, I'm really concerned about switching it off hardly so many times.
I thank in advance anybody who will try to help me.
Cheers
Bonny
PS: I wanted to post my kernel config file but I don't know where it is. Can you tell how to do that?
