howto adsl-start at boot (SOLVED)

  • Quote

Post by vanGogh » Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:45 pm

my gentoo-machine needs after every boot an adsl-start but i wanna start my network on boot. i did

Code: Select all

#rc-update add net.eth0 default
#rc
my /etc/conf.d/net looks fine to me:

Code: Select all

 config_eth0= ( "dhcp" )
question: has it maybe something to do with booterror:

Code: Select all

 dhcpcd (!!)
it says that "netmount" wasn't found, too. but i think that's not related to my problem. does anyone know what to check next? thx

Does your setup work after normal boot ? If so : I remember that the script is a bit buggy - I changed it ( /etc/init.d/rp-pppoe ) like this to make it run after networking is setup

depend() {
use net
after domainname
}

Try this. Maybe you have to add use dhcpd or something.

DSL (or at least any that I have encountered) does not use DHCP. You should set eth0=up

then do
rc-update add rp-pppoe default

so that looks as if there are files which need to be changed. does anyone has an idea which these may be. :?

Perhaps the rp-pppoe init script was deprecated, I don't have it either. Instead, my /etc/conf.d/net looks like

Code: Select all

modules=( "iproute2" )

config_eth0=("adsl" "10.1.1.3/8")
adsl_user_eth0="<<ISP USERNAME HERE>>"
Now when /etc/init.d/net.eth0 is started, it'll bring up the adsl connection on ppp0 (setup with adsl-setup), and also assign eth0 the address 10.1.1.3.

The adsl_user_eth0 value is used to lookup the PAP password in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets, this is setup for you when you run adsl-setup.

Hope this helps
