emerge tries to install 2.4 kernel when I want a 2.6 kernel

I'm not sure how my system got to this state, but I am trying to 'emerge hardened-sources' and it is showing that is would install hardened-sources-2.4.31 instead of 2.6.11-r15. I have emptied my USE="" in make.conf to make sure some flag wasn't causing this. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

how recently updated is your portage tree? Also check your make.profile link to make sure it's not pointing to the 2.4 profile.

/etc/make.profile was a link to /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0/2.4

I deleted it and remade it to /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0 and it works fine now.
