Always "Caching service dependencies ..."

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Whenever I start an init.d script I always get:

Code: Select all

* Caching service dependencies ...     [ ok ]
Why is that?

It's the way the script is written.

You can apply the change in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-231170.html ([HOWTO] Flying with gentoo) to make modules-update (what this message represents) only happen when necessary. I applied it to my system months ago with no problems.

I'm not talking about the modules init script. Whenever I start any init.d script it says:

Code: Select all

* Caching service dependencies ...     [ ok ]
I don't understand why it is alway caching my service dependencies.

Hi!
Have you ever solved this? I have the same odd behaviour: On startup I get three times "Caching service dependencies" and several warnings about services that have already been started. And any init script I start first says "Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ]"...

Hehe, I had this issue when copying over a system to another harddisk. I think it happens when the rc-init system gets out of sync. I was having the same issue on bootup with Three "Caching Service Dependencies..." on boot up and always when stoping/starting services. Well, I did some tinkering and figure out how to fix it.

Do this as root...

Code: Select all

rm -r /var/lib/init.d/*
Then reboot.

You will see no more Caching Service Dependency madness!
