@lnxay

are there HOWTOs or manuals on the internet somewhere describing how to build a liveCD/DVD ? Or if you have the time ;) could you please write just a few lines how to achieve it?

Thx

I've some health diseases. I'm working at 2.60 and I have already backported all new stuff from amd64 2.50 to that. Sorry for the delay, I hope to finish 2.60 in two/three weeks with a lot of updated and new stuff.

SMP, DMRAID and sw raid support will be in 2.60. I'm working with sw raid since the past week ;). If you want to create sw raid with 2.50 You only have to:

Code: Select all

modprobe md
cd /dev
MAKEDEV md

I'll have to stay offline for 3 weeks. I have to do a surgical participation. Don't worry... 2.60 will see the light next month with your wishlist completely satisfied.

Sorry... :(

Great work, downloading now! Oh, and I got a "Connection refused by tracker" when I tried the torrent...

I've been using the RR4 minimal LiveCD for a while now. I was just wondering if you were planning on updating the reiser4 tools and what not. I'm not sure when the last version was created...

Well, using a search engine ... this turned up: http://www.mininova.org/get/28745
It does work (be patient).

Bittorrents are a much better way to "serve" those files than FTP/HTTP, because they promote a responsible way of downloading those huge (and ever increasing, w. DVDs) .ISO files.
Read through the thread to get an idea about how much traffic was generated in just a couple of days ...

As it is, the vast majority of us benefit from the benevolant, altruistic efforts of a very few people ... the authors of Open Source Software. Torrents are a great way for the rest of us to contribute ... in the form of bandwidth, costing us nothing. And hopefully the authors of the projects won't have to pay increased traffic/hosting costs, to distribute the fruit of their labor "(of love)".

Just 2 bits' worth of common cents ...

Hope it helps,
An advocate.

All trackers are down or reject my request on download the RR4 2.40 iso. Isn't there any person who got a copy that can host the image for a limited time? Please send me a PM and help me out. Cheers.

Indeed, the original torrent tracker does not seem to be up.
But the 'mininova' should work, given a little patience. It seems to be trackerless, so there is a greater latency.
I am now also seeding it, and will do so until friday (08/19). It should help get a few more downloads/seeders going.

Hope that helps.
L8r.

FYI: a few weeks back, 400+ GB of download traffic was generated in 48 Hrs. Not very many ISPs would tolerate that, unless one pays for the traffic/hosting accordingly ... This is why bittorrents are a better distribution alternative for small Open Source Projects.

:)

Hi lxnay,

I have a request for the next x86 LiveDVD: Could you include the st (SCSI tape) driver? I'd like to do cold backups of my root filesystem (which is reiser4) to tape, and I don't really have a way of doing it, since I don't have a boot CD with both reiser4 and scsi tape support.

I hope you get better soon!

thanks,
dogshu

It looks like mybittorrent is the last spot where the torrent file is hosted?

Note that, however, I personally didn't get any peers from that tracker. All the peers I got were from Azureus' distributed network. And to connect to that, one'd probably use the direct links anyways, so here they are -although I think they've been posted before:

Magnet links for Azureus (file->open->location):
lxnay 2.4: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:L7O4YDV3HF3MP742CXEE6SYSJO6YAZ4G
lxnay 2.5: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:5NN544HJ3P355TSUXOKQ4QAGF6SLWFBY

Also, lxnay's index page currently seems to be down. The md5sum files still worked at this point, so you can check the files independently from these shady magnet links. :)

The openbits.org Mirror for the .torrent file is down. Can anybody upload this file to an alternative mirror, please? I need this x86-dvd very urgently. :)
