I'am trying to install e17 from cvs with some help from the guide on gentoo-wiki :). But for some reason I'am not allowed to login to the cvs server. First I thought this was a temporary problem but after 2 day's of trying something else must be wrong. The error is:

Code: Select all

>>> Unpacking source...
 * Fetching CVS module e17/libs/eet into /usr/portage/distfiles/cvs-src ...
 * Running  cvs -q -f -z3 -d ":pserver:anonymous:@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment" login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/enlightenment
cvs [login aborted]: connect to cvs.sourceforge.net(66.35.250.207):2401 failed: Connection refused

!!! ERROR: dev-libs/eet-9999 failed.
!!! Function cvs_fetch, Line 337, Exitcode 1
!!! cvs login command failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
When I tried manually to login to the cvs server I get this error:

Code: Select all

xos@hurricane> cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/enlightenment
CVS password: <blank>
cvs [login aborted]: connect to cvs.sourceforge.net(66.35.250.207):2401 failed: Connection refused
Anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?

seems like you'll have to fix your internet connection or something. looks like sf's CVS blocks your host 8O

oops. Actually, I did. :oops: Sorry if I infected anyone with my confusion. If it's all still segfaulting, I'd still double-check my flags and re-emerge it all.

I just found out the problem. My modem was blocking some ports for some undefined reason :? At this moment I'am experiencing my first enlightenment moments. I only have to found out how to make my own eap files.

I realy realy love e17. especially the fading and so on...
Has anyone any idea when e17 ll come out. I know, there isn't a exact date, but a guess?
For some reason not all the e17 packages support the "~amd64" keyword, so I had to do "*", is this normal?
How can I change the default program to be loaded when I click something in evidence?

dr17 is still in heavy development and is officialy CVS only code right now and will prolly move to ~arch once the devs decide a snapshot is stable enough to be granted a sub number ie .0.1 so right now all of us have had to use -* for a while now. As far as evidence is conserned edit the mime.handlers file in /usr/share/evidence/ . Right now I am at work and can't remember how self intuitive editing it was (has been quite a while for me) but i want to say that it was a simple search and replace in nano when i get home from work later i will try and be more helpfull.

That's discover_sky - the author quit working on it though and is working on another (very similar looking) theme, but it isn't ready yet. It'll probably be on get-e in a few days.

I'm fooling around in perl and used the script on p6 as the base of a script to handle e17 CVS. It doesn't do much more than the orginal at the moment except installing e17 from scratch but I'm going to add more to it soon. My friends have used it successfully like this

Code: Select all

wget svn.hax.is/emanger/emanger && chmod +x emanager && emanager -install
You can get it here

Here you can see cvs commits: http://cia.navi.cx/stats/project/e

I miss pager-dragging, too :(

pager dragging works here, CVS co from today. note that not all themes support it.
the themes where i'm absolutely sure it works are default, gant, detour and milky (not sure with the rest from get-e)

You can drag windows from one desktop to another using your pager (xfce's pager does that).

Perhaps this video from e16 provides ample examples of pager dragging (after about half a minute into the video). :)

Edit Just updated e17, it doesn't seem to work here :(

I have to ask what's wrong with Portage... :-)

In e17 you can do it by dragging the icon in the top left of the window to the desktop in the pager. I can't drag windows inside the pager - although it'd be a neat wee feature!

I thought it was the "drag windows inside the pager" that was recently implemented, when it was mentioned by gimpel. Of course, dragging the icon from top left of the window to pager has been working since the last few months IMHO. (I can't remember when I didn't see it working).

Question about engage: Can I get it to have the icons be above all other windows when they zoom? Currently, they hide behind when they zoom, which seems silly.

I don't think gimpel has mentioned that - that feature has not been implemented yet. The dragging the icon to the pager feature instead has indeed been implemented months ago.

No - all modules are restricted to render on the background layer only. This would be impossible technology wise without using composite, which is not supported by E17 right now.

ah, well, ooops! maybe i missunderstood "pager dragging". indeed i meant, like vrln said, dragging the window icon to the pager.

sorry if that caused some confusion, hehe :)

EDIT: AHA! I just realized that only 3 of the packages were using CVS, so I went through the fun process of adding the rest into my portage overlay :P

Restarting emere...hope it works!
Sorry, apparently my subscription to this thread expired or something. You've probably figured this out by now but the package order has changed since I wrote that, so you'll need to change the order and contents of the epkgs variable to suit the current state of things. Check out the user manual on Get-e.org. Should work after that.
