XMMS emerging without output plugin

  • Quote

Post by voyager42 » Mon Jul 25, 2005 2:01 pm

Hi,
I recently switched to NPTL and since then my xmms has been broken... At first it was seg faulting, but eventually I succeeded in merging it. Problem is that I have only Flac input plug-in - nothing else. Is this a use flag problem? What do I emerge to get my plugins back? (mainly mp3, ogg) Thanks

It didn't come with anything for me either, I fixed that by emerging xmms-alsa, xmms-wav, and xmms-mpg123. That should give you wav, and mp3 support anyway.

What Zoef said is right, but a better way of doing it is with USE flags so that xmms depends on those packages

What does emerge -pv xmms tell you?

# emerge -pv xmms

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r14 -3dnow +alsa +arts -directfb +esd + flac -jack -lirc +mad +mikmod +mmx +mp3 +nls +oss -sndfile +vorbis 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

What am I missing?

Nothing :/
From that it sounds like the packages mentioned previously should have already been pulled in

xmss use flags

Actually, to be honest, I didn't have the mp3 or vorbis use flags. I only noticed this after manually emerging xmms-alsa, xmms-wav, and xmms-mpg123. Everything's working now, but later I may try to recreate the problem to see if the use flags were required.

I don't understand this way to do things. Why change methods ? why havind 832 xmms-XXX external libraries? i don't understand why change things in such a way. :(

my emerge -u world gave me an unusable xmms; that's really BAD for every user.
AMEN
