Do you have userpriv in your features? Can you please paste me the output of your emerge --info. I know that there are some problems regarding userpriv, but I haven't had the time to test it.

I do indeed have userpriv in my features. I have also been doing some experiments with putting the portage tree in /var/portage. Both these things are because / is a raid1 partition at the beginning of my hard drives, and I wanted it to work in /var which is a raid0 partition so it doesn't take up quite so much space on my disks etc. and if I keep everything within a few hundred cylinders, I'm thinking I might reduce my seeking and make my drives last longer, not that that actually matters *watches you put your head in your hands and thing "oh my god! not another fucking ricer"*

I'm going to PM my emerge info to you because it's massive and it EATS the page.

I'll try putting a symlink for ccache into /var and turning off userpriv and I'll see if that works.

Thanks for the hint

edit: it appears to have worked. unsermake is emerged and I'm on to downloading arts. if you want any other debug stuff, tell me how to get it and I'll post it, but at the moment, my system is back to root privs but with a symlink, so as far as portage is concerned, it looks pretty much like yours I expect.

Thanks again for taking the time to make these ebuilds. Now I can check the SVN builds for all the KDE-usability mailing list stuff and understand what they're talking about/test it all out

Please try to utilize http://genkdesvn.berlios.de/bugs in the future, as the forum thread is intended for project discussion only.

erm...... maybe I spoke too soon. It got to:

*snip*
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/synth_play_impl.cc
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/audiomanager_impl.cc
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/audioiooss.cc
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/virtualports.cc
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/audioiojack.cc
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/convert.h
SVN: A kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts/flow/audioionull.cc

and then kinda hung so I killed it, and now it gets to:

* Synchronizing with repository at svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde
* Updating working copy of kde/branches
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/KDE
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/KDE/3.5
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/KDE/3.5/kde-common
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/KDE/3.5/kde-common/admin recursively
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/arts
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/arts/1.5
SVN: At revision 443268.
* Updating working copy of kde/branches/arts/1.5/arts recursively

and then goes back to hanging. Would I be able to update it manually, like in the docs on the KDE site? or is it working in the background?

I suspect it's not working in the background, as it(svn, ebuild.sh, emerge et al)'s working steadily at 0.00 user% and sys% and my terminal hasn't moved in a few hours

Is there any way to get it to download?

Thanks,

Just use "UNSERMAKE=no emerge kmymoney2" and it should work.

Yeah, but we have to fix your certificate problem. Usually, the first time you run the ebuilds a certificate is fetched, and what may happen with custom folders is that it is fetched in the wrong place (i.e. not the place the subversion client will look at).

First, please edit subversion.eclass and create a new line between lines 32 and 33, that prints the following:
ewarn "HOME is $HOME and DISTDIR is $DISTDIR", and we'll try to go from there.

* HOME is /var/tmp/portage/homedir and DISTDIR is /var/tmp/portage/homedir/.subversion/auth/svn.ssl.server

I can't think of anything that might be wrong there because it managed to install unsermake from the kde-svn repository

Sorry for the long time for a reply. I'm actually putting new power cables in my house, so I can't finish getting this problem sorted until tomorrow

The certificate is needed for external fetches (i.e. they're not directly from svn://, but from https://). Unsermake as opposed to arts doesn't require external fetches, that is why you didn't encounter a problem with it. I will try to see if I can get arts to work without external fetches.

quanta not compiling

Post by snakattak3 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 10:10 pm

Quanta-7 isn't compiling right now.

Code: Select all

linking ../lib/libquantamodule.la

I've tried recompiling kdialog (maybe stretching out on a limb), but that didn't work either.

if all my other ebuilds need external fetches or whatever, isn't it going to be easier to get it working properly, with everything I need?

If I put a symlink into /usr/portage, then start again from scratch, do you think that might work or not? I don't mind doing that if you think it would work, and we can put in the FAQ on the wiki "does this work with non-default portage settings?" "probably not. Be a good boy and go back to a default install"

I don't entirely get what I'm doing here, so if you want me to stop, and be sensible, I will

If you like the challenge, I don't mind sticking around to be a guinea pig. I am on holiday until october when I start going to uni :D

Well, I don't think we need the certificate stuff anymore, I just disabled externals and it fetches them manually without certificates. So, you can test it now, it should work in all cases. And frankly, as far as I remember, all ebuilds already fetched admin separately, and arts was the only ebuild that needed libltdl from kdelibs, so now that should be resolved.

I don't know the last time I actually sat there and *watched* something compiling! *love*

When I first got into gentoo, I thought "OMG! KDE3.4 comes out on my birthday! I bet I could get it on that release date" and I thought *that* was bleeding edge (compared to my friend's suse 9.0 disks which required a void of warranty to get KDE3.3 on them.

Now I *truly* understand the meaning of bleeding edge.... or I will when I re-launch KDE and get the new kicker up

*does so now*

Thank you so very much for helping me out. I hope I get the chance to help others in turn, when I get a bit less n00bish

Just use "UNSERMAKE=no emerge kmymoney2" and it should work.
This doesn't change much, does it? This way, it's not easy to emerge kde apps from both the official tree and kde-live in one step.

Wouldn't be better for the svn ebuilds to use their own eclasses and leave the official ones alone?
(just asking)

Thanks,
Alin
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.

Yes, it is in my plans. I have started cleaning up and rewriting the eclasses, and I will write some code to apply to svn ebuilds only. They probably won't have their own eclasses, but there will be a few checks in place to make sure that the other apps are unaffected.

Great!
Nice job you're doing here.

Thanks,

Weird problem with the KDE SVN server (I think). Every emerge hangs with the following process:

Code: Select all

svn info https://svn.kde.org/home/kde/branches/KDE/3.5/kde-common/admin
The process seems to be doing nothing. "kde-common/admin" has already been updated. I've just gensync'd, and I even tried removing the local "kde-common" directory, nothing seems to work. It happens with the updateKDEsvn script as well as when emerging any package. It was working fine a few minutes ago, then suddenly stopped.

Any reason why you are using https:// instead of svn:// ?

There's a way to change that?? I just typed "./updateKDEsvn". I'll try again.

EDIT: It appears I am using svn://. Everything updates properly, but then the https:// process is spawned and hangs or something.

Ok, I think I know what the problem is. Which ebuild is this happening with? kdelibs? If so, go to /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/kde/branches/KDE/3.5/kdelibs and rm -r admin. It should work.

Actually it was happening with pretty much every ebuild, so I removed /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/kde/branches/KDE/3.5/*/admin, and it works now. Thanks!

qt ebuild fails for me with the following error:
* Applying uClibc/libtool patches ...
make: Makefile.cvs: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `Makefile.cvs'. Stop.
ls: [0-9]*-*: No such file or directory

Done.

Applied patches:

Previously applied patches:

Disabled patches:

Already merged patches:

* Applying qt-no-rpath-uic.patch ...

* Failed Patch: qt-no-rpath-uic.patch !
* ( /usr/local/overlays/kde-live/x11-libs/qt/files/qt-no-rpath-uic.patch )
*
* Include in your bugreport the contents of:
*
* /var/tmp/portage/qt-7/temp/qt-no-rpath-uic.patch-31366.out
(I'll gladly send the contents of the patch.out but it's not very interesting. The error it gives is 'No file to patch. Skipping patch.')

On another note, I've just moved to a dialup and am billed by the minute; so individual ebuilds kill me in terms of online time. There was an offline option in the original cvs eclasses, but I've failed to get it working in the svn ones. Is anyone thinking of adding the feature back in again?

Thanks very much.

Regards,

Regards,
It seems that you are using an old repository. You need to update your rsync source to rsync://download.berlios.de/genkdesvn_ftp/stable

It is very easy to add offline support, but things like revision checks (i.e. being able to only merge stuff that hasn't been merged before) will not work properly without some more major changes since currently revisions compared are with the server. If you are interested in having offline support regardless of that, let me know and I can add the ability.

I will also perhaps be able to add an option that fetched an entire module, rather than single apps, but then installed them individually. So let me know if that interests you as well.
