apache gracefull restart fails!

net-www/apache-2.0.54-r8 with current init.d and conf.d scripts.

 * Stopping apache2 ...		[ ok ]
 * Starting apache2 ...		[ !! ]

This happens ONLY when requests are being served and /etc/conf.d/apache2 contains RESTARTSTYLE="graceful"

typical /var/log/apache2/error_log content is:

running apachectl -k graceful directly does not seem to cause this problem. more info on stopping apache.

ironically, the whole point of a gracefull restart is to avoid any sort of downtime..... gracefull restart as been the default since at least Jan 2004, so I suspect I won't be the only one with this problem.
