Icecast - How To? [SOLVED]

Trying to set up an icecast server and their website wasn't overly helpful. I got XMMS working, and I emerged xmms-liveice which claims to send the audio to an icecast server and I also emerged Icecast itself. I have no idea what to do next. I run it with the syntax "icecast -c [file]" but I don't know what file it's looking for.....the mp3 file? An icecast file? I have no idea how to send the audio to Icecast and then how to make Icecast send it over the internet. Please help! Thanks.

It was going great until it stopped working. It sent me to the website to download the newest version (after I already emerged icecast through portage). So I downloaded it, and then it told me to "cd icecast-1.3.12/" as the very next step here - http://www.gnuware.com/icecast/sect_03_02.html. If you hit previous in the bottom left, it'll go to the download instructions I followed.
It was the .tar file I downloaded, but it didn't tell me to do anything with it. So on the next page, the proposed icecast directory doesn't exist, anyone know what's up?

If it was me, id just read the part about configuring it - not installing.
You can just emerge it, remember ?

That's a pretty good idea actually, but I get to this part
# useradd -d /usr/local/icecast icecast
# chown -R icecast.icecast /usr/local/icecast
# su - icecast
and the second line doesn't work, I get the error
chown: `icecast.icecast' syntax is obsolete; use `:' since this will be removed in the future
chown: `icecast.icecast': invalid group

So I'm lost! I was hoping someone had done it before and could give me a quick how to.

chown icecast:icecast icecast is the user and icecast is the group

Ran into a problem with the directions. I'm supposed to do this....
# su - icecast
$ mkdir log
$ cp /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml .
...and when I got to the last line, I get this....
icecast@tux ~ $ cp /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml .
cp: cannot open `/etc/icecast2/icecast.xml' for reading: Permission denied

How do I fix it? Maybe I can just copy it using Konqueror, but where's the . folder?
