installed a dvd player/burner... What now? [solved!]

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

installed a dvd player/burner... What now? [solved!]

I recently installed a dvd burner/player in place of a cd burner. Here's what I've got working:

1) Mount and Read CDs and DVDs
2) Burn CDs and DVDs using k3b

Here's what doesn't work:

1) There is no /dev/dvd. How do I make one?
2) I cannot play DVDs. I know this is more of a multimedia question, but I'm not sure if my problem is due to a problem setting up mplayer or a problem configuring the DVD drive. Feel free to move it if it belongs in Multimedia or portage. How do I get mplayer to play DVDs? Here's the error I get when I type "mplayer /dev/cdroms/cdrom0" or "mplayer /mnt/cdrom" when its mounted:

Never mind, I found the answer in another post!

I just created a symlink from /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 to /dev/dvd then the mplayer command mplayer dvd://1 worked!

Thanks!
