OpenOffice Mime Types problem

  • Quote

Post by pacde » Wed May 25, 2005 2:03 pm

Ive emerged OpenOffice-ximian-bin and everything seems to work fine except I cant save anything because it complains about not finding any mime types and then crashes. Ive looked around on the web and they seem to suggest that the mime types should be in /etc/mime.types, but I dont have any such file or directory. Any ideas?

Okay, the mime types are installed in /usr/share/mime/application but they arent listed in ~/.mime.types - is this something I should update? also the mimetypes in /usr/share/mime are readable for everyone - does this mean that openoffice just doesnt know where to look?

I also emerged openoffice-ximian (not bin).
I can't seem to save anything. It complains that the mime type is not recognized, and then immediately hangs...

similar problems emerging OO.o 2.0

i emerged openoffice (not bin, not ximian) and the emerge failled due to access violations.
logfile says
access_wr: /usr/share/mime

and, like everyone else here, everything in that directory is readable to all...not to mention that emerging is done as root, so the point is moot in this case.

Here's the resolution:

Code: Select all

FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge openoffice
this worked for me and some other people
Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, AMD/ATI 4850 and nice person in front!

That's not a resolution, just a temporary workaround - disabling sandbox is never a good thing. It'd be good if someone could work out the actual fix.

The fix is already in portage, so just emerge sync and try again.

hi,

as well as for k3b, a simple "kbuildsycoca" run as user solved the problem for me.
