SOLVED: xfce4 - desktop is blocked for changes

Hi
I need help.
I was configuring my xfce4 desktop, panel, themes, colors and everything. I set up two terminals on desktop and then exited with save session.
Now my desktop is black, I cannot change anythng in settings like background picture and so on... and I cannot right click on desktop to access menu (when I put it on panel - it works)

I deleted everything from /root/.config directory and all setting were reseted but still I have black desktop and cannot rightclick on it.

Do you know what the probem is?

I deleted all files from /root/.config - no help.
Added new user - and xfce is working like new :-) so I copied everything from /home/user/.config to /root/.config
changed owner, grup permissions... no help.

the truth must be out there....

Did you try "Desktop Settings" from the Settings Menu and in the second "Tab" "Menu"
theres a marker for "show desktop menu" or something?
It has to be checked!

You may consider running "xfdesktop &".

Also why are you running as root?

HI
Thanks for all tips.

I finaly resolved this by deleting everything from ~/.cache ... :-)

I'm working as root because on this stage 99.99999% activieties I do needs root rivileges.
And I'm to lazy to read how to create new user :-))))

thanks anyway

I hope this a problem gets fixed sooner rather than later. I love XFCE for it's elegant simplicity but it messed up my desktop settings numerous times.

That, along with exiting and restarting solved it for me. I didn't save that session. Not sure if it mattered.

Interesting... will have to look into what that does/doesn't do.

EDIT:

Unless you meant that it recurs freqently/easily.

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but I had the same problem and I solved it simply by typing: xfdesktop &

and then I made sure to save the session when I logged out.

It would seem that xfdesktop needs to be started with xfce and for some reason isn't. Has anyone searched bugzilla (gentoo AND xfce) to see if anything's there?
